PGA Betting Picks: Head-to-Head Matchups for the Sentry Tournament of Champions

Whether you are a pro making your own PGA betting picks or just getting into the game, betting on golf provides a great way to sweat the action. Like most other professional sports, there are plenty of ways you can bet on golf; with outright winners, head-to-head matchups and plenty more, golf betting offers a wide array of wagers. There will certainly be an edge to be found each and every week, starting with the upcoming Sentry Tournament of Champions.

That’s why we are debuting our PGA betting series. It consists of three articles:

  • Outrights & Each Way
  • Head-to-Head Matchups (this one)
  • Jason’s Bet of the day (stole this idea from Awesemo’s own Ben Rasa).

PGA Betting Round 1 Matchups

Sergio Garcia (-137) vs. Brian Gay

Having played here and won before, Garcia holds a pretty significant advantage over Gay. Based on the Awesemo Projections, Garcia is favored by about 1.2 shots over Gay (71.1 to 72.3), which seems closer to -170 as a real line.

Patrick Cantlay (-200) vs. Richy Werenski

The largest differential in projected score in round 1 is this grouping here. Cantlay is projected to shoot 3 under, while Werenski is projected to shot about 1 under. It is tough to pay so much juice on it, but given those projections, it still has value.

When parlayed together, these matchups will give you a +159 payout.

PGA Betting Sentry Tournament of Champions Long Shot

Hideki Matsuyama (+130) vs. Xander Schauffele

With the news of Schauffele getting COVID around 10 days ago, there has been basically no prep or practice time put in. Unless Matsuyama had the same thing happen to him, I’m sure the same will not be said about him. He’s come in the top 10 each of his three times coming to Kapalua, so his course history doesn’t seem too far off of Schauffele’s. Schauffele holds the upper hand in long-term form, but Matsuyama has the edge this week, and we are getting plus money on it.
