PGA Betting Picks: Outrights & Each Way Bets for the Tournament of Champions

Whether you are a pro making your own PGA betting picks or just getting into the game, betting on golf provides a great way to sweat the action. Like most other professional sports, there are plenty of ways you can bet on golf; with outright winners, head-to-head matchups and plenty more, golf betting offers a wide array of wagers. There will certainly be an edge to be found each and every week, starting with the upcoming Tournament of Champions.

That’s why we are debuting our PGA betting series. It consists of three articles:

  • Outrights & Each Way (this one)
  • Head-to-Head Matchups
  • Jason’s Bet of the day (stole this idea from Awesemo’s own Ben Rasa).

Before we dive headfirst into my foursome of picks for this week, I want to make sure that we define terms for those of you who are brand new.

Outright: A bet that is placed on a golfer to win the tournament

Each Way: A bet that covers a golfer for the top-five, top-10 and top-20 bets offered

PGA Betting: Sentry Tournament of Champions

Patrick Cantlay

Outright: 18-1; Top 5: 7-2; Top 10: +112; Top 20: -240

With his comparable talent to Xander Schauffele — who is 10-1 this week — there’s some value to be had with Cantlay. We just saw Cantlay win two starts ago, and Kapalua and the Tournament of Champions have historically been kind to golfers that have won during the fall circuit.

*This is why our OddsShopper tool is so great. I thought 18-1 was the best number for Cantlay, but a quick check here tells me that the 20-1 offered by FanDuel’s book is actually the best of these PGA betting picks.

Collin Morikawa

Outright: 30-1; Top 5: +320; Top 10: +170; Top 20: -180

While this may not be a great course for Morikawa to win on, he’s already shown that the track fits his game enough to finish inside the top 10 in his first try. That’s an impressive feat on a course with so many subtleties, and it should bode well for him this year. Both the top-five and top-10 numbers seem to present very good values.

Cameron Champ

Outright: 66-1; Top 5: 8-1; Top 10: 3-1; Top 20: -110

In his first trip to Maui, Champ was able to navigate the greens quite well while also using his driver to his advantage. I don’t think much will change this year, and I think he’s in much better all-around form. Champ has much longer PGA odds than golfers like Joaquin Niemann and Sungjae Im, and on this course I think their skills are quite comparable. This should make Champ one of our more undervalued PGA betting picks for the Tournament of Champions this week.

Robert Streb

Outright: 400-1; Top 5: 45-1; Top 10: 14-1; Top 20: +333

When Streb won the RSM Classic for the first time, it wasn’t long after he was able to play well in Maui.  He finished in eighth that year. While this competition is a bit stiffer than it was at the time, I think the top-20 number here is well in play. At +333, that should be a pretty good value and gives you the ability to try to hit him on a top-10 finish at 14-1 and still make a profit. I wouldn’t be betting the outright or the top-five on Streb, however.
