Against the Grain Picks for the Corales Puntacana Championship | DraftKings + FanDuel

As we head into the offseason before peaking again at The Masters, the PGA DFS contests offered might be a tad lower than normal. But they are significantly bigger than last year, as $200,000 to first wasn’t seen until the Farmers Insurance last year. Here it is now for The Corales Puntacana Championship, as we dig in and find the best against the grain plays for the slate.

$10,900-$9,000

  • Thirteen Golfers
  • Total ownership of around 180%

PGA DFS picks

With only four golfers above $10,000 this week, and none of them above $11,000, I thought we needed to change it to up to make sure the content flowed accordingly. Adam Long coming off of his impressive performance at the U.S. Open has gamers intrigued at that price and looks to be around 20% owned this week. Sam Burns has continued to be reliable in these events and is also pushing the 20% mark. Tournament favorites Corey Conners, Mackenzie Hughes and Will Zalatoris should all be owned between 15-20% this week.

Thomas Detry and Pat Perez will fall in that range as well, as gamers look to stack at least two or three of these names I just mentioned. A bit of ownership drops off to the next batch of golfers — Charles Howell III, Denny McCarthy and Kristoffer Ventura — before getting to the three golfers that seem to be heading toward below 10% ownership: Emiliano Grillo, Sepp Straka and Henrik Stenson.

Indeed, choosing from one of those last three golfers should help set you apart in terms of differentiating in your lineup. The first of those three that I am clicking this week is Grillo.

Nos. 11-32 Priced Golfers ($9,400-$7,500)

  • 22 Golfers
  • Total ownership 230%

PGA DFS

Twenty golfers fill this middle section, with total ownership of about 230%. The highest owned of them will be Jhonattan Vegas, who looks to take his stellar off-tee play down to the Dominican Republic with him and will be owned over 20%. The secret is certainly out on Matthias Schwab. Even after his abysmal performance at the U.S. Open, gamers seem ready to head right back to this talented young golfer out of Vanderbilt, to the tune of almost 20%. Adam Schenk, whom I mentioned in the “Fit & Form” article, will likely be owned close to 20% as well.

Speaking of talented young golfers, Will Gordon is back in action at a very reasonable price of $7,600 and with likely 15% ownership. A few other golfers will get around that number, including Brian Stuard, Patrick Rodgers and Xinjun Zhang. Once you get away from those golfers, though, ownership does start to thin out. Kyle Stanley, Keith Mitchell, Luke List and Henrik Norlander all will be owned at 10% or just higher. That should leave us with around 11 golfers that will be under 10% owned this week:

  • Matt Jones
  • Brice Garnett
  • Seamus Power
  • Bo Hoag
  • Charley Hoffman
  • Joohyung Kim
  • Graeme McDowell
  • James Hahn
  • Chris Baker
  • Rob Oppenheim
  • K.H. Lee

Top Against-the-Grain Plays

Choosing one golfer from each of the bulleted list and one from the Stanley/Mitchell/List/Norlander group should give you plenty of variance in the lineup. Trust me, I love Gordon this week, so I’ll be playing some chalk, but I’ll try and pair him up with a Baker and/or List to try to add some differential. I would include Grillo from the group above as well.

The Rest ($7,400 and Below)

  • 107 Golfers
  • Total ownership of 200%

He is certainly a product of the environment here, but Beau Hossler and his stellar work off the tee has risen to north of 10% ownership. Chris Kirk and Kurt Kitayama will also get north of 10% this week, with others like Sam Ryder coming close. Ryder has had some success here, which is probably attributing to it. Others like Doug Ghim, Cameron Percy, Peter Uihlein, Matthew NeSmith and Kevin Chappell will be close to 5% this week. Still, plenty of golfers, will be under 5% owned this week, including Akshay Bhatia, Ryan Brehm, Chase Seiffert and Anirban Lahiri.
