As we head into the offseason before peaking again at The Masters, the PGA DFS contests offered might be a tad lower than normal. This week it’s Sanderson Farms Championship as we dig in and find the best against-the-grain plays for the slate.
Awesemo’s Top 10 Projected Golfers
PGA DFS Player Focus
This week features 144 players with the top 65 and ties making the cut.
$10,900-$9,400
- Ten Golfers
- Total ownership of around 154%
The fall circuit is always a weird season in terms of pricing, especially when we get the second-highest priced golfer withdrawing from the tournament. So I’ve extended this out to the top 10 salaries on the slate to analyze. It is no surprise to Scottie Scheffler is the class of the field and one of, if not the highest-owned golfer in the slate. In fact, the top-three-priced golfers may end up being the top-three-owned on the slate. It’s been a while since we’ve seen that.
After them, though, not many others in the top 10 will get above 10% and likely none of the above 15%. Byeong Hun An and Sebastian Munoz should come in around 10% this week, with younger prospects Sam Burns and Doc Redman likely to be closer to 15%. While there may not be any other golfer over 15%, there may not be many under 10% either, with Zach Johnson trending towards the lowest-owned golfer somewhere around 7%.
Top Against-the-Grain Plays
I honestly don’t know if I can get myself to play Johnson at these levels, and I’d much rather play the chalk of the event up here. If I had to take any of them, Munoz would be my next roster spot.

Nos. 11-32 Priced Golfers ($9,400-$7,500)
- 25 Golfers
- Total ownership 210%
With so much attention going to the top three golfers this week, it’s no surprise to see ownership pretty evenly spread out here, with just a few golfers getting at or over 15% in the group. The ones that are likely to have the best chance at it are Cameron Davis, Brian Harman, Denny McCarthy, Patrick Rodgers and Luke List. With over 20 golfers still left between these prices, not many will get above 10%. Chez Reavie, Lucas Glover, Corey Conners and Dylan Frittelli may all get close, and now that Bud Cauley has withdrawn, Emiliano Grillo may trend over 10% as well.
After this bunch, I think we’ll get plenty of choices between 5-10% this week, including:
- Tom Lewis
- Carlos Ortiz
- Henrik Stenson
- Sergio Garcia
- Pat Perez
- Charley Hoffman
Lastly, in this section, there should be a handful of golfers that are under 5% owned this week, including:
- Charl Schwartzel
- Stewart Cink
- Rafa Cabrera Bello
- Rory Sabbatini
- Pat Perez
Top Against-the-Grain Plays
All of those names on the above bulleted list have played well in the last 11 weeks, or well enough to warrant a couple of roster spots this week. The first list, however, is where I’m keener to focus on. Stenson’s ownership will become higher now that Cauley isn’t playing, but both Tom Lewis and Carlos Ortiz have appeal at their ownership this week.
The Rest ($7,400 and Below)
- 105 Golfers
- Total ownership of 240%
Adam Schenk cannot put together a good weekend but has no problem getting there, that’s for sure. He looks to be heading towards 10% this week. An interesting case this week will be J.T. Poston, who looked like he regained some form in round 1 of the U.S. Open but had a freak accident after the round where a piece of sand or debris from the range hit his eye and scratched his cornea. That was probably more scary than anything else, as he was expected to fully recover. Nonetheless, it was an added variable. It did lead to a second-round score in the 80s.
There are still plenty of names that should be owned over 5% this week, including two of the chalkier plays from last week, Jhonattan Vegas and Matthias Schwab. Kyle Stanley will also get a few looks and was relatively popular last week — same with Beau Hossler. Others like Tom Hoge, Brandt Snedeker, Maverick McNealy, Brian Stuard, Nate Lashley and Henrik Norlander will all be owned around 5%.
