PGA DFS Course Fit

The topic of course history has been widely debated in the PGA DFS industry. No matter which way you tend to lean, there is certainly something to be said about a golfer’s game fitting a particular style of course. That’s not debatable. So we dive into the history to see if we can identify a pattern and see why a golfer may be a great fit at this specific course. Here are the top findings from this week:

*All stats are from 2013 to present.

Positive

  • Tony Finau has played it each of the last five years, coming inside the top 25 in each of them. He is the only golfer to have a 100% top 25 rate with a minimum of four starts. Only Gary Woodland and Jason Day have as many top 25s, and they did it in seven starts. Then there are only two golfers that have four, Brandt Snedker and J.B. Holmes, and both of them did it in seven chances as well.
  • Moving our attention to the top 10s, Jason Day has had seven starts here, two missed cuts and five top 10s with two wins. He’s the only with four or five top 10s in the last seven years; the next highest is three. Justin Rose has done it in the previous three years, coming in first, eighth and fourth. Jimmy Walker and J.B. Holmes are the other two that have three top 10s since 2013.
  • Gary woodland (seven), Tony Finau (five), John Senden (five), Kevin Tway (four), Graham Delaet (four), Jon Rahm (three), C.T. Pan (three) and Beau Hossler (three) have all had at least three starts here and have made the cut in all three of them,
  • Lastly, Rory Sabbatini, Tiger Woods, Jason Kokrak, Patrick Reed and J.J. Spaun all have at least three or five starts and have come in the top 25 in at least two of them.

Negative

  • Fabian Gomez (five), Max Homa (three), Peter Malnati (three), Michael Block (three) are the only four golfers with at least three starts to have never made the cut here.
  • Mark Wilson has no top 25s in seven starts over the last seven years. He’s joined by Harold Varner, Danny Lee, Jamie Lovmark, Cameron Percy, Matt Every, Jim Herman, Cameron Tringale, John Senden and Kevin Tway with no top 25s. Interesting that both Tway, Tringale, & Senden have all had success in earning a paycheck here, but not a substantial one. They could be good targets for cash lineups.
