This tournament has been played here at Kapalua for quite some time, and will for the foreseeable future. This gives a ton of information to go off of for our PGA DFS research. But, with so many new faces in the field, this year going further than 2013 was not necessary. Dustin Johnson is the only golfer to have played six times, while no golfer has played all seven years. Patrick Reed is next with five starts, while Justin Thomas and Matt Kuchar have four starts.
PGA DFS Course Fit
The topic of “Course History” has been widely debated in the PGA DFS industry. No matter which way you tend to lean, there is certainly something to be said about a golfer’s game fitting a certain style, of course, that’s not debatable.
So we dive into the history to see if we can identify a pattern and see why a golfer may be a great “fit” at this specific course. Here are the top findings from this week:
- Dustin Johnson is the only golfer to have come in the top 10 more than three times, he’s 6/6. That also includes two wins. Rickie Fowler has done it in all three of his trips, and Jon Rahm in both of his visits.
- Xander Schauffele found his footing after coming in 22nd in his first try, a theme for a lot of golfers when they arrive at Kapalua for the first time.
- Justin Thomas had similar results to Xander, finishing outside the top 20 in his first start. Thomas, however, has added three more roller coaster results finishing 22nd in 2018, and third last year and that one win.
- J.B. Holmes is the only golfer to have not made it inside the top 20 with at least two starts.
