PGA DFS Showdown Picks: British Open Round 4

British Open Round 3 Recap

The morning started bright and early, at 4:25. The first star to tee off was Rory McIlroy, and he wouldn’t disappoint as he birdied the first hole and sped out to a four-under 31 on the front. Many thought he would couple that with a good back nine and get himself back in this thing, but he would falter badly and finished at just one under. Bobby Macintyre, who was out a bit before Rory, would shoot 65 on the day and jump up the leaderboard. Kevin Streelman would also continue his solid major form this year and would shot a bogey-free 66.

Corey Conners would put together another solid round, his third in a round, and shot 66, and sits just four back, and with his ball-striking prowess, could be one to steal this tomorrow, if and only if he catches fire with his putter.

Then the stars would come out, as all eyes were on Louis Oosthuizen. He would maintain his good form throughout the round, while Jordan Spieth struggled late, and Collin Morikawa struggled early, allowing Louis to maintain his lead. At the end of the day, Morikawa’s bounce-back would put him just one back, and he will play in the final group with King Louis tomorrow.

DraftKings

  • DraftKings is offering $100,000 to first place and $400,000 guaranteed for the fourth-round slate.

British Open PGA DFS Picks

There’s always a story on Sunday at the Open. Whether it’s Hatong Li or Rory McIlroy, it’s been someone every year. Finding who it will be tomorrow will inevitably help win the $100,000 to first. Positional points are in play, just as a reminder.

Lastly, Conners will be one of the highest-owned golfers on the slate tomorrow, but he does set up quite well for the final-round showdown contests.

PGA DFS Picks for Round 4 of The British Open

  • Scottie Scheffler ($9,500): With so much focus on Oosthuizen, Morikawa and Spieth, that should inevitably lead to others being lower owned. Now, I don’t expect Scheffler to get anything below 20%, but he’s shown the ability to maneuver around the links course quite well in his first British Open. He’s performed well in almost all other majors as well, so this shouldn’t be too much of a surprise.
  • Cameron Smith ($8,900): Hanging around all week, Smith has looked good with all parts of his game this week, but at all different times. Saving pars from terrible approach shots/ drives or missing shorter birdie putts, Smith has still found a way to get inside the top 10 heading into the final round. With one of the best short games out there, if the irons can get hot for one round, he’s got the putting ability to go low.
  • Matt Wallace ($7,000): After a bit of a disappointing opening round. Wallace has bounced back with two rounds in the 60s. Over the three rounds, he has 13 birdies, so it’s not like he’s not striking it well. If he can avoid the bogeys tomorrow, I could see him climbing inside the top 10, or maybe even five if he goes bogey-free.

Sneaky Pick for the Round 4 Showdown

  • Jason Kokrak ($6,400): Maybe I should have switched both him and Wallace as Kokrak should be popular given his price tomorrow, while Wallace is probably still a bit under the radar. Kokrak found form today shooting 66, bouncing into the top 20 for the week. He and Kevin Streelman both supply good salary relief while still providing upside in the slate. I expect both he and Kokrak to be paired up quite a bit tomorrow.
