I will provide notes and a data sheet to help with your PGA DFS picks for DraftKings and FanDuel contests in each category. This week the focus is on The PGA Championship.

PGA DFS Picks: The PGA Championship

Recent Form

Going back 11 weeks covers tournaments up to the Arnold Palmer Invitational on both the European Tour and the PGA Tour. The most anyone golfer has competed is nine times, set by Charl Schwartzel, Sungjae Im, Tom Lewis and Tom Hoge.

In this 11-week sample size, Jordan Spieth is the only golfer of the 156 competing this week to have five top-10s in this timeframe. He has done it in six tries. Garrick Higgo coming over from the European Tour has four top-10s and three other top-25s, giving him seven total, the most in the field. Three others have four top-10s as well: Corey Conners, Dean Burmester and Jon Rahm. Abraham Ancer and Charley Hoffman have six top-25s and two top-10s, and Ancer is working off of back-to-back top-fives. Others in this dataset with at least two top-10s and four top-25s include Keegan Bradley, Matt Wallace, Brian Harman, Chris Kirk, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Sam Horsfield, Cameron Smith, Rahm and Schwartzel.

Recent Form in Majors

While no two golf courses are the same, majors tend to be the toughest tests the golfers face all year. Therefore, instead of using course history, which would only give us one year in this case, we will use the last seven majors to spot some trends and over-performers in the biggest events on tour.

Thirty-five golfers have played in all seven, while only seven of those 35 have made the cut in each:

  • Xander Schauffele
  • Cameron Smith
  • Webb Simpson
  • Shane Lowry
  • Paul Casey
  • Louis Oosthuizen
  • Matt Wallace

Of those names, only Schauffele has more than two top-10s, coming in with four. Surprisingly, six other names also come in with four top-10s in the last seven majors: Rahm, Justin Rose, Tony Finau, Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka. Spieth is the only other golfer in the field that has at least three top-10s in the last seven majors.

Other golfers with at least two top-10s and two additional top-25s include Justin Thomas, Patrick Reed and Hideki Matsuyama.

Strokes Gained

The course is measuring almost 8,000 yards, so gamers will immediately jump to off-tee game. But given that the course will also be firm, dry and fast, it should negate driving distance a bit. So here we will cover a wide scope of statistics that will be most important this week.
