The Fit & Major Championship Form Guide for the 102nd PGA Championship | DraftKings + FanDuel PGA DFS Picks

During the 10-week hiatus, we worked on our content to deliver you the best possible info out there. One of those changes was combining the course history and recent form articles to showcase two of the most essential elements when building out DFS lineups each week. Since we were on a 10-week hiatus, we’ll use form from this year and course history back to 2015. Let’s get into the PGA DFS Fit & Form guide to make your PGA DFS picks for your daily fantasy lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel for the 102nd PGA Championship.

Recent Form Since the Return of Play (Charles Schwab)

A full two months of play, eight total weeks, and it feels like it’s been a blur. Now the best of the best are all gathered at TPC Harding Park for golf’s first major in almost a year’s time. Over the next 350 days, we’ll get seven. It starts here in San Francisco this week as 156 golfers vie for the first major of the year.

Twenty-seven golfers in the field will be making their first appearance since the return of golf, with almost all of them being PGA Professionals. The few that aren’t are Jorge Campillo, Chan Kim, Joohung Kim and Mike Lorenzo-Vera.

Positives

  • Top 10s: Two golfers now since the restart have four top 10s to their name: Justin Thomas and Bryson DeChambeau. Two others have three — Jason Day and Daniel Berger — while 20 others have two. A couple of those names include Troy Merritt, Emiliano Grillo, Gary Woodland and Collin Morikawa.
  • Top 25s: The names don’t change all that much when we roll out the criteria to the top 25 instead of the top 10. Viktor Hovland and Xander Schauffele join Thomas as the only golfers with five top 25s in the last eight weeks. Abraham Ancer and Lucas Glover join DeChambeau as the only other golfers with four.
  • Cuts: Since the restart, only 10 golfers in the field have at least two starts and earned a paycheck in every one. A few names we’ve already mentioned, like Scahuffele, Hovland and Ancer, fit this category. A few others we haven’t mentioned like Richy Werenski, Tyrrell Hatton, Patrick Cantlay, Adam Hadwin and Rory McIlroy are a few of the other names that haven’t missed a cut in the last eight weeks.

Negatives

  • Top 10s: 98 golfers out of the 156 competing this week are still in search of their first top 10 since the Tour returned. The most surprising of the 98 golfers is undoubtedly McIlroy, who has made every cut but hasn’t once finished inside the top 10.
  • Top 25s: 43 golfers in the field this week will be searching for their first top 25 since the restart. Big-time names including Marc Leishman, Tommy Fleetwood, Paul Casey, Bernd Wiesberger and Tiger Woods are just a few. A couple of others that have played at least three times include Keegan Bradley, Tyler Duncan, Brandt Snedeker, Denny McCarthy, Graeme McDowell and former PGA Champion Jimmy Walker.
  • Cuts: Five golfers in the field this week have missed five cuts in the last eight weeks. Vaughn Taylor, Nate Lashley, Andrew Putnam and Tom Hoge. Of those golfers, only Lashley hasn’t earned a paycheck. In fact, he’s the only golfer other than Davis Love III and Kurt Kitayama to not earn a paycheck.

Last Five Majors History

Every course on the PGA Tour is made entirely differently and will suit specific golfers each and every week. However, one thing will always remain constant about Major Championships; the conditions are always likely to be the hardest. That typically will bring out a certain style of player that typically performs well. Honestly, sometimes those two things are synonymous with each other. To win big at PGA DFS, you need more than just the best in the world. Let’s find out who else maybe fit to play well these weeks:

Positives

  • Top 10s: 14 golfers in the field have at least two top 10s in the last five majors. Brooks Koepka leads with all of his starts ending in the top five, let alone the top 10. He’s the only one to do it in all five. Jon Rahm has done it in 4-of-5starts, while missing one cut. Adam Scott and Gary Woodland have three top 10s and one missed cut. Xander Schauffele has two and no missed cuts. The same goes for the next bunch of golfers to have two top 10s and no missed cuts, including Dustin Johnson, Patrick Cantlay, Rickie Fowler, Tony Finau and Jordan Spieth. Others with two top 10s but at least one missed cut in the last five majors include Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Shane Lowry.
  • Top 25s: Only Koepka again has five top 25s in the last five majors. Rahm has four, but this time he’s joined by Scott, Schauffele, Spieth, Matt Kuchar and Jason Day as the only golfers with four top 25s. There are a bunch more with three top 25s, including Tyrrell Hatton and Webb Simpson, who have yet to miss a cut as well.
  • Cuts: I’ve already mentioned a bunch of guys that haven’t missed a cut in the last five majors, including Koepka, Schauffele, Spieth, Cantlay, Fowler, Simpson, Hatton and Johnson. A few names I haven’t mentioned that have also scored a paycheck in each of the last five majors include Tommy Fleetwood and Cameron Smith. Others have done it in all of their starts with at east three, including Louis Oosthuizen, Jason Kokrak, Daniel Berger, Erik van Rooyen and Andrew Putnam.

Negatives

  • Top 10s: 15 golfers have competed in all of the last five majors and don’t have a top 10 to show for it. Hideki Matsuyama, who has two top 25s and four made cuts without a top 10, is one of the more prominent names on here. Others include Billy Horschel, Kevin Kisner, Marc Leishman, Zach Johnson, Cameron Smith, Bryson DeChambeau, Sergio Garcia, Patrick Reed, Paul Casey, Jimmy Walker, Brandt Snedeker, Phil Mickelson, Ian Poulter and Bubba Watson. All will be looking for their first top 10 in the last five major championships.
  • Top 25s: Only three of those golfers above — Garcia, DeChambeau and Leishman — have competed all five times and don’t even have a top 25 to their name. A few others have zero top 25s but have not started five times: Keegan Bradley, Adam Hadwin, Joaquin Niemann, Sungaje Im and Tom Lewis.
  • Cuts: There isn’t one golfer in the entire field that has teed it up in each of the last five majors and missed every cut. In fact, only Si Woo Kim has competed four times and missed every cut. A few others have three starts and three missed cuts, including Keith Mitchell, Jorge Campillo and C.T. Pan.

Fit & Form

Now that we’ve covered both course history and recent form, let’s see if we can find any crossovers, either negative or positive.

  • The first criteria I’m looking at here for this week are golfers that show up in both positives categories. Those golfers that do are Patrick Cantlay, Jason Day, Gary Woodland and Xander Schauffele.
  • The next thing I’ll look for is a golfer that has at least two top 25s in the last six weeks and shows up on the positive side of the major championships. Those golfers include Dustin Johnson, Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth, Webb Simpson, Erik van Rooyen, Tony Finau and Tyrrell Hatton.
