The Fit & Form Guide for the Travelers Championship | DraftKings + FanDuel PGA DFS

During the 10-week hiatus, we worked on our content to deliver you the best possible info out there. One of those changes was combining the course history and recent form articles to showcase two of the most essential elements when building out lineups each week. Since we were on a 10-week hiatus, we’ll use form from this year and course history back to 2015. Let’s get into the PGA DFS Fit & Form guide for your daily fantasy lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel.

Recent Form Since the Waste Management

The second week is in the books for the PGA Tour, and so far only one positive COVID-19 test with no outbreak. That’s got to be seen as a win at this point. Now in our third week of competition, this article will start to heat up in terms of the information it provides. Nine of the top 10 in the world are here to compete this week, with only one big name missing: Tiger Woods. He’ll be back in two weeks.

Positives

  • Outside of one blemish on the card this season, Justin Thomas comes into the week having made four top-10s in his five starts this season, the only golfer to eclipse the 80% mark. Byron DeChambeau is next at 75% of his starts, while Rory McIlroy has slipped back and is now only 4-for-6. Jon Rahm and Webb Simpson round out the only golfers to come in the top 10 in at least 50% of their starts.
  • When we drop the criteria to top-25s, we have plenty more golfers that have at least 50% of their starts winding up inside that number. Also, a handful more accomplished this in two-thirds of their starts, including Abraham Ancer, Xander Schauffele, Joel Dahmen and Max Homa.
  • We are down to just seven golfers that have made every cut in this time, and if you count Dahmen’s withdraw as a missed cut, then it is only six. Paul Casey and Patrick Cantlay will put their record to the test this week, as this is their first week back. Collin Morikawa looks for his 23rd straight made cut to start his career this week, which would put him three back of Tiger. Ancer, McIlroy and Matthew Fitzpatrick are the other three golfers who have made every cut.

Negatives

  • Eleven golfers have six missed cuts over the last 10 tournament weeks. Those include Emiliano Grillo, Si Woo Kim, Harold Varner III and former winner Russel Knox.
  • All hope is not lost; Chris Stroud broke his missed cut streak this past week and finished in 28th. I suspect we’ll see at least one of those four golfers come inside the top 30 this week.
  • Three golfers in the last 10 tournament weeks haven’t earned a paycheck, of those that competed at least four times: Lucas Bjerregaard, Greg Chalmers and Seung-Yul Noh
  • We add seven golfers to the top-25 list. A few of the names here last week finally broke through, like Doc Redman, who had his best finish in some time coming in a tie for 21st. Some of the more surprising names on this list are C.T. Pan, Kevin Tway, Jim Furyk, Aaron Wise and Tyler Duncan.

Course History at TPC Riverhighlands

A seaside gem to a stroll through the forest, the shortness of the course is just about all that this week’s course and last week’s have in common. The fairways are some of the easiest to find on the PGA Tour, and since the course is only 6,900 yards, it’s not difficult to see Pete Dye’s masterful design, as scores have not reached the twenties yet, at least in the last five years. It provides plenty of risk/reward opportunities and good television coming down the stretch. We should be in for another good one this week.

First Time Playing Since 2015

Each week, especially with the restart, we’ll have plenty of new golfers that are seeing the course for the first time in PGA Tour competition, or at least the first time in the last five years. This week there’s a bunch:

  • Justin Rose
  • Dustin Johnson
  • Matthew Fitzpatrick
  • Scottie Scheffler
  • Ian Poulter
  • Rafa Cabrera Bello
  • Matt Wallace
  • Harry Higgs
  • Matthew NeSmith
  • Charl Schwartzel
  • Joseph Bramlett
  • Doc Redman
  • Danny Willett
  • Aaron Wise
  • Nate Lashley
  • Sahith Theegala
  • Lucas Bjerregaard
  • William Gordon
  • Steve Stricker
  • Bo Hoag
  • Scott Harrington

Positives

  • Nineteen golfers have teed it up in each of the last five years, with only two of them making the cut each time: Paul Casey and Keegan Bradley. Patrick Rodgers has teed it up four times, making the cut in all four. Bryson DeChambeau, Russel Knox, Vaughn Taylor and Scott Brown are the only others with at least four starts and made the cut in all of them.
  • Only four golfers have multiple top-10s in the last five years: Paul Casey (two runner ups), Brian Harman (back-to-back years), Bubba Watson (two wins) and Stewart Cink.
  • Matt Kuchar is the only golfer with more than three starts to come in the top 25 in all of them, while Poulter is the only other golfer that has done it at least 80% of the time with more than two starts.

Negatives

  • Only one golfer in the field has missed four cuts in the last five years: Troy Merritt. Funny enough, the one cut he made in 2017 resulted in a top-10. Nine other golfers have played TPC River Highlands at least three times in the past five years and have missed three cuts. Brian Stuard, Sung Kang, J.T. Poston, Lucas Glover and Scandott Stallings are a few of those nine.
  • Three golfers have competed here every year since 2015 without a top-25: Tom Hoge, Jason Kokrak and J.J. Henry.

Fit & Form for PGA DFS

Now that we’ve covered both course history and recent form, let’s see if we can find any crossovers, either negative or positive.

  • DeChambeau has played very few courses four times in his professional career since turning pro in April of 2016. This was one of his first events, and he made the cut, finishing in 47th. Each year the finish here has gotten better — 26th, ninth and eighth. His recent form with only top-10s and top-fives on the card would suggest that there’s a good chance he can win here this week. The oddsmakers agree.
  • Barring a missed putt on 18, Rodgers would have made his sixth straight cut and ninth out of his last 10. He is quietly playing good golf. He is now six years removed from his pro debut here at this course and has made the cut in all four tries since 2015. That includes a third place in 2017.
  • Something had got to give with Russell Knox.A former winner of the event, he’s missed at least six cuts in the last 10 tournament weeks and his stats look terrible. We’ll see if the fond memories can push him over the line this week.
