⛳ PGA DFS Picks: WGC Workday Championship Optimizer Picks & Leverage Leaders for DraftKings & FanDuel Lineups | 2/23

PGA Optimizer picks for DraftKings and FanDuel WGC Workday fantasy golf lineups with expert analysis with Xander Schauffele

Usually the PGA Tour travels to Mexico for the WGC-Mexico Championship this week, but with the world still dealing with a global pandemic, we will stay stateside for the WGC Workday Championship at Concession. Located in Bradenton, Fla., Concession Golf Club (par 72, 7,474 yards) is a lengthy track that was designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin. PGA DFS has a full slate of high-end GPP plays available for this tournament, and below are some of my favorite PGA optimizer fantasy golf picks of the week for both DraftKings and FanDuel. These fantasy golf picks are based on Awesemo’s Top Golfers Tool, designed by Alex “Awesemo” Baker to provide leverage scores for each golfer in the field based on their ownership, salary and chances of finishing inside the top six. These picks combined with the site’s daily fantasy golf picks, projections and analysis should help with lineup construction.

PGA Optimizer Fantasy Golf Picks: WGC Workday Championship

This will be the first time that Concession Golf Club has ever hosted a PGA event. As noted above, the par 72 has some length to it, and it appears that longer hitters will have an advantage this week. The Bermuda greens are small, and strong iron play is necessary to consistently find the putting surface. Overall, with no previous PGA events to analyze at Concession, it is best to target players who are currently striking the ball at a high level and avoiding big numbers on their scorecards. With this being a WGC event, it’s important to note there will be no cutline this week. There are 72 players making the trip to Florida and barring a withdrawal or disqualification, every golfer will accrue fantasy points for four rounds of golf at the Workday Championship.

Xander Schauffele

Awesemo PGA DFS Leverage Scores: DraftKings: 11.9%, FanDuel: -6.7%

With far more expected ownership on FanDuel, Schauffele is a less appealing target, but on DraftKings he is tied for the lowest ownership projection of all the players priced above $10,000. Per Awesemo’s Top Golfers Tool, he has a 6% chance of winning the WGC Workday Championship, which are the third-best odds in this field based on our simulations. As a result, Schauffele sports the highest DraftKings Awesemo leverage score of the week.

Coming into the Workday, he currently sits at No. 4 in the golf rankings and has carded six top-10s in his past 10 starts. Statistically speaking, Schauffele has been marvelous, ranking ninth in strokes gained tee to green, eighth in strokes gained on approach, 15th in strokes gained off the tee, seventh in birdie-or-better percentage and fourth in bogeys avoided over his last 12 rounds. Additionally, he ranks fifth in total strokes gained when we put all of these golfer’s last 50 rounds on par 72s side by side. Schauffele always rises to the occasion when playing in world-class fields, and I think he is a must-have on DraftKings since most DFS players are looking elsewhere in the top tier.

Collin Morikawa

Awesemo PGA DFS Leverage Scores: DraftKings: 5.1%, FanDuel: 4.6%

Morikawa’s putter killed him last week at the Genesis Invitational. Of all the players who made the cut, Morikawa ranked dead last in strokes gained putting. However, he was spectacular as a ball striker, finishing fifth in strokes gained tee to green, second in strokes gained on approach and second in greens in regulation. No player has gained more strokes when approaching the green than Morikawa across his last 12 rounds, and one of Morikawa’s three PGA wins came at a Muirfield Village in 2019, which is also a Nicklaus-designed course.

If he can find any sort of rhythm with his flat stick this week, Morikawa could easily contend this week in Florida and be an extremely valuable asset in GPPs. Via Awesemo’s Top Golfers Tool, Morikawa is projected to be less than 5% owned on both DraftKings and FanDuel this week.

Robert MacIntyre

Awesemo PGA DFS Leverage Scores: DraftKings: 1.0%, FanDuel: -0.7%

MacIntyre a is Euro Tour regular who has been killing it the last few months overseas. Since the start of November, he hasn’t missed a cut in seven events and has recorded three finishes inside the top six. MacIntyre has moved up a notable 48 spots in the World Golf Rankings over this time while averaging a 308-yard drive and 74.8% greens in regulation.

His skill set is ideal for Concession, and we have seen MacIntyre flash upside in elite fields before, most notably with a sixth at the 2019 Open Championship. Simply because he lacks name value as a European player, MacIntyre should garner little to no ownership in GPPs this week, and I love gaining leverage with the surging young talent.
