PGA DFS: Make the Cut cash game picks for the CJ Cup (FREE)

The purpose of this PGA DFS Picks article is to help you “Make the Cut” in fantasy golf. Life on the European and PGA Tour can be grand, but only if you make the weekend, and not coincidentally, the same goes for DFS Golf. The more golfers you have that Make the Cut, the better chance you’ll have at scoring more points. Simple. So this article serves as a must-read for those playing cash games (50-50’s, head-to-heads, etc.) each week. Unlike GPPs, which are all about building unique lineups that focus on high upside and high variance plays, cash game lineups should be made up of safer plays.

A bunch of new faces hit the course this week, and I previewed all of them here! FREE

Contest and Fantasy Golf Lineup Strategy

Before we get into a recap, I think it’s essential to set the stage on how I attack cash games. I like to limit my bankroll to nothing more than 25% of my yearly roll, which this year, candidly, I started with $10,000 in the “till.” So with that said, I invest upwards of $500 to $1,000 in cash games. I will play a variety of head-to-head matches that include:

  • Randomly selected opponents at the and five-dollar level
  • Selected Opponents at the $10 $20 and $50 $100 levels.

I will run anywhere from one to four lines using the eight players from this article and maybe one or at the most two more. And I’ll put my “best” lineup in the single entry massive double contests at the $25 and $50 levels and will play one $215 winner take all three man as my “big” cash gameplay.

Recap of last week:

It was a stellar, but not great for my cash game picks, getting three of four main plays across the line, the winner in the other groups, and only missing two lower-priced golfers. But, all for nothing as I couldn’t find the right combination of any.

Tommy Fleetwood ($10,300/$10,900)

Money is to be won and lost this week, but the value seems to be the highest here with Fleetwood. Coming off a top-five in his last start and on the verge of a win for quite some time, he’s a reasonable price at a course that demands precision, something Fleetwood does quite well. I’m also taking a bit of a salary reduction from the other top-priced guys, and hoping that none of them run away with it.

Although Fleetwood’s ball-striking numbers haven’t been up to par with Hovland’s, I’m just not ready to roster Hovland over  Fleetwood at similar prices. Maybe soon, but not now.

Secondary ($8000-$9000)

Matthew Wolff ($8,800/$9,300)

I tweeted out right after salaries came out that I thought Wolff being priced $1,700 cheaper than Hovland was very questionable. Sure, Hovland’s stats look a bit better, but the results don’t look all that much better.

Wolff scored over 100 in his last outing, coming in 18th, has a win to his credit, and has shown he’s much more comfortable on the greens than Viktor, gaining strokes in six of eight events, compared to Hovland’s three out of seven. We know Wolff is superb off the tee, and if he can continue to find the fairway here this week, he’ll really be able to take advantage of his length.

Value Picks ($7999-$6,000)

Corey Conners ($7,900)

One of the trendier plays this week, Conners is in search of his first President’s Cup bid. His ball-striking numbers are insanely good, gaining strokes in nine straight measured events. He’s also only lost strokes three times. He struggles with the putter, however, only gaining strokes four times on the year, but two of the four times have been in the last four events.

Troy Merritt ($6,400/$7,200)

The world traveler this fall, Merritt has played all over the globe, enjoying his “offseason”. Clearly, travel doesn’t bother him. In fact, he seems to enjoy it, playing in Switzerland and a few other stops on the Euro Tour before coming back and missing the cut at the Safeway. He bounced back at the Shriners, making the cut, but finishing 63rd.

The reason why I am playing Merritt here is because his BOB % is much better than most people in this range, except for Wyndham Clark, and it also allows me to go and get two are even three studs in a cash line. We don’t have to worry about him missing the cut, obviously, so I like four rounds of a guy that ranked 11th last year in birdie-or-better percentage.

Collin Morikawa ($10,100)

 Andrew Putnam ($8,500)

Ian Poulter ($7,800)

Keith Mitchell ($6,600)
