This column is a quick-hitter article to give you the stats you need to make informed PGA DFS picks for your DraftKings and FanDuel daily fantasy golf lineups. We’re in search of a few recommendations for the third round of the Farmers Insurance. In a typical Showdown GPP, DraftKings will offer upwards of $50,000 to first place for second-and third-round tournaments and sometimes up to $100,000 for the final-round contests. They also provide weekend-long contests that have been offering $25,000 to first place on average. FanDuel has also tried to get into the weekend-long and final-round contests, offering $10,000 and $5,000 to first place in their PGA DFS Showdown contests. Let’s take a look at PGA DFS picks for Round 3 of the Farmers Insurance Open.

PGA DFS Showdown Picks: Farmers Insurance Open Round 3
Previous Round Recap
South Course
From bright blue sunny skies to hail, we saw it all on Friday at Torrey. Wind gusts accompanied these passing storms, pushing the scoring averages about a stroke higher on both courses. We also had the largest number of golfers make the weekend, with 80 doing so. Still, most DFS contests on DraftKings won’t have more than 10% of lineups make it through to the weekend with six of six slots still alive. Most tournaments usually have around eight percent.
There was one round today that stuck out from the rest; Viktor Hovland shot seven-under on the South Course, and no one else shot better than three under. Adam Scott was one of those golfers who continues his consistent play, and he adds good putting to boot. For the most part, if you could have avoided Harris English and Billy Horschel, the golfer that you picked up top probably has a chance to win the whole thing, heading into the weekend. Jason Kokrak also shot 69 on Friday, one of the only golfers in the field to play better on the South Course than the North over the first two days.
Lanto Griffin and Will Gordon are two names to watch out for this weekend, continuing their good play, with both shooting two-under on Friday.
North Course
Even with hail coming down, some golfers still managed to take advantage of the easier North Course. None better than Robby Shelton, who shot seven-under 65. Jon Rahm, Tony Finau, Danny Lee, Rory Sabbatini and Tyler McCumber all shot 67, the second-best score of the day. McCumber had to birdie four of his last six holes to make the cut on the number. A nice way to earn a paycheck.

General Strategy and Farmers Insurance PGA DFS Picks
The leaderboard is filled with bombers and a few other short game specialists, like Reed, Griffin & Malnati. It is a prevailing theory here, and it is certainly hitting that mark tonight.
Top-10
The top-10 is packed with studs after two rounds, so we get a bit of a pick and chose ’em game as they all seem to be in good form. William Gordon continues to improve, and we know he has the ability to score with the best of them, so I’ll certainly have some shares. He needs his irons to cooperate a little more than in the second round, if they do he could be an important part of lineups tomorrow. Robby Shelton is also one of those guys that he plays all four days typically earning himself a pretty hefty paycheck.
Lastly, one more note on Hovland’s rounds on Friday, he gained nine strokes against the field… NINE.
PGA DFS Picks Outside the Top 10
- Will Zalatoris ( $7,900) Speaking of a guy that typically relies on his ball-striking, Zalatoris got it done with the short game today and even ended up losing a bit off the tee, which never happens. So, even with his C-game, he still scored well enough to give him a chance heading into Saturday. With so many studs up top, I don’t think he’ll be that heavily owned in tomorrow’s slate.
- Adam Hadwin ($7,600) Quietly putting together a good few weeks in California, Hadwin has transitioned the momentum from Sunday’s round in Palm Springs to this week, working himself within an inch of the top five. His price is quite a bit higher than it was for the week-long event, so I can’t imagine anyone is going to think about him. Hadwin should provide a good against the grain play.
- Jason Korkak ($7,100) I mentioned Kokrak earlier as one of the only golfers that had a better score on the South Course than the north, and that included a missed six-footer for birdie on nine, his 18th. Typically a really good ball striker, it was only his irons that lacked a bit today, something I suspect will pick up in round three with better conditions.
Sneaky PGA DFS Pick for Round 3
Harry Higgs ($6,700) Something about this place and Higgs just seem to fit, as he played incredibly consistent each of the first two days, shooting under par in both. Today, just on lone bogey and an eagle has him inside the top-20 going into Saturday.
DraftKings and FanDuel Farmers Insurance Open Lineup Fill-Ins
- Rory McIlroy ($10,200)
- Hideki Matsuyama ($8,800)
- Justin Suh ($7,100)
- Sam Ryder ($6,200)
