The First Cut: The Masters Guide & Player Preview at Augusta National PGA DFS Picks | 4/5/21

Bombers (11)

The following golfers rely heavily on their off-tee game to earn their keep on the PGA Tour. While it may not be the only thing they are good at, it’s certainly the best of their attributes.

  1. Tony Finau

    • How They Qualified: Top 50 in the world as of Jan. 1, 2021

      • OWGR: 13
      • Driving Distance: 7
      • Driving Accuracy: 186
      • Off the Tee: 17
    • Bet of the Week: +335 To miss the cut.
    • Quick Notes: Finau had a great stretch of golf before the Florida Swing, but the loss to Max Homa back at the Genesis has seemed to send him into a bit of a spiral, as the form has dropped off quite a bit, leading to two missed cuts.
  2. Matthew Wolff

    • Age & Birthplace:
    • How They Qualified: Top 50 in the world as of Jan. 1, 2021

      • Driving Distance: 160
      • Driving Accuracy: 132
      • Off the Tee: 199
    • Bet of the Week: +150 to miss the cut
    • Quick Notes: Wolff has been one of the biggest enigmas this year. He burst on the scene about two years ago, but a spot of trouble this year has him searching for his game right now.
  3. Brooks Koepka

    • How They Qualified: Winner of the 2018 U.S. Open
    • Recent Form:
      • 2
      • 38
    • Masters Form:
      • 2020: 7

      • OWGR: 12
      • Driving Distance: 15
      • Driving Accuracy: 225
      • Off the Tee: 27
    • Bet of the Week: DraftKings sportsbook is being very cautious with brooks this week, not offering any matchup bets, or make/miss cut bets. The only spot I can find that I like is to bet against him in Group C where Patrick Reed is +350 among the five players.
    • Quick Notes: Koepka is here and ready. It hasn’t even been a month since his knee surgery, but he’s going to give it a go this week.
  4. Sergio Garcia

    • How They Qualified: Winner of the 2017 Masters
    • Recent Form:
      • 5
      • 9
      • 32
    • Masters Form:

    • Statistical Profile:
      • Strokes Gained Tee to Green: 10
      • OWGR: 42
      • Driving Distance: 10
      • Driving Accuracy: 131
      • Off the Tee: 2
    • Bet of the Week: Top 20 +188
    • Quick Notes: Did Garcia trade in all his run good at August for his win in 2017? Maybe, as he missed the cut in his next two appearances and then came down with COVID in November. But he’s coming into the week playing very well, which is a change from the previous years.
  5. Bubba Watson

    • How They Qualified: Winner of the 2014 Masters
    • Recent Form:
      • 9
      • MC
      • 54
    • Masters Form:
      • 2020: 57
      • 2019: 12
      • 2018: 5
      • 2017: 80
    • Statistical Profile:
      • Strokes Gained Tee to Green: 15
      • OWGR: 60
      • Driving Distance: 15
      • Driving Accuracy: 187
      • Off the Tee: 15
    • Bet of the Week: +225 Top 20
    • Quick Notes: It hasn’t been a great season for the two-time Masters Champion, but a spark at the Match Play has him playing some of his best golf of the season heading into Augusta.
  6. Xander Schauffele

    • How They Qualified: Top 50 in the OWGR Jan. 1, 2021
    • Recent Form:
      • 18
      • MC
      • 39
    • Masters Form:
      • 2020: 17
      • 2019: 2
      • 2018: 50
    • Statistical Profile:
      • Strokes Gained Tee to Green: 13
      • OWGR: 6
      • Driving Distance: 13
      • Driving Accuracy: 147
      • Off the Tee: 38
    • Bet of the Week: I’ll be betting against Xander this week in Group C and Head to Head against Patrick Reed.
    • Quick Notes: At the start of the season it looked like Schauffele was poised to take the ascent to the top of the world. But a lackluster approach game this year has set him back, as he is relying way too much on his driver and putter. That’ll have to change this week if he wants to win his first major.
  7. Scottie Scheffler

    • How They Qualified: Top 50 in the OWGR Jan. 1, 2021
    • Recent Form:
      • 37
      • 2
      • MC
    • Masters Form:
      • 2020: 19
    • Statistical Profile:
      • Strokes Gained Tee to Green: 37
      • OWGR: 32
      • Driving Distance: 37
      • Driving Accuracy: 109
      • Off the Tee: 18
    • Bet of the Week: +188 Top 20 After Round 1
    • Quick Notes: Coming off an extremely volatile week in San Antonio, after one of his best weeks on tour the week prior at the Match Play, Scheffler enters this week riding some solid form in 2021. He was 19th here in November, and Scheffler found his way around quite well in his first try.
  8. Jason Day

    • How They Qualified: Top 50 in the OWGR Jan. 1, 2021
    • Recent Form:
      • 2
      • mc
    • Masters Form:
      • 2020: 19
    • Statistical Profile:
      • Strokes Gained Tee to Green: 37
      • OWGR: 32
      • Driving Distance: 37
      • Driving Accuracy: 109
      • Off the Tee: 18
    • Bet of the Week: Top 10 +400
    • Quick Notes: This has been a year of swing and personnel changes for the former PGA Champion, and it started off slow. However, since he’s found a grove with his new coach and swing, results have been much more consistent. Day has made five straight cuts since the Pebble Beach Pro-am, and that span has consisted of one top-10 and another top-20.
  9. Cameron Champ

    • How They Qualified: Top 50 in the OWGR Jan. 1, 2021
    • Recent Form:
      • 26
      • MC
      • MC
    • Masters Form:
      • 2020: 19
    • Statistical Profile:
      • Strokes Gained Tee to Green: 65
      • OWGR: 85
      • Driving Distance: 65
      • Driving Accuracy: 172
      • Off the Tee: 9
    • Bet of the Week: +138 Top 40
    • Quick Notes: A chip-in on his 36th hole got him to the weekend in San Antonio, where he may have found his game. Don’t be fooled by the 19th place here in November either, as he was in position for a top-10 before a Sunday.
  10. Dylan Frittelli

    • How They Qualified: Top 50 in the OWGR Jan. 1, 2021
    • Recent Form:
      • 9
      • MC
      • 22
    • Masters Form:
      • 2020: 5
      • 2019:
      • 2018: MC
    • Statistical Profile:
      • Strokes Gained Tee to Green: 92
      • OWGR: 71
      • Driving Distance: 92
      • Driving Accuracy: 145
      • Off the Tee: 113
    • Bet of the Week: +100 Top 40
    • Quick Notes: Among all the surprise finishes in November, Frittelli may have been the biggest, as he came in fifth. The form right now, however, is a bit all over the place, with two missed cuts and two top-25s in his last four events.
  11. Phil Mickelson

    • How They Qualified: Two-Time Masters Champion.
    • Recent Form:
      • 25
      • 35
      • 20
    • Masters Form:
      • 2020: 55
      • 2019: 18
      • 2018: 36
    • Statistical Profile:
      • Strokes Gained Tee to Green: 174
      • OWGR: 102
      • Driving Distance: 174
      • Driving Accuracy: 198
      • Off the Tee: 202
    • Bet of the Week: Top 20 after round 1 +300
    • Quick Notes: It wouldn’t feel like the Masters without at least talking about Mickelson for half a second. While he may have dropped out of the top 100 in the OWGR recently, the form had been doing better as of late, making him four of his last five cuts on the PGA Tour before making a 10 at The Valero on 18 on Thursday. That alone sent him out of the tournament, but he returned Friday and played a relatively stellar round of golf, shooting 69, an entire 10 shots better than Thursday.
