There’s only seven days left before the PGA Tour brings the best week of golfing this year, and along with it, the biggest PGA DFS week ever. There will be not one, not two, but THREE millionaire-maker contests on DraftKings, and plenty to play for on FanDuel as well. No need to get ahead of ourselves though, as the tour makes a stop at the Valero Texas Open this week, and there’s plenty of DFS action to break down. The date for this event has bounced around a bit, but due to sponsor obligations, the Valero kept its spot and the Houston Open has now moved. There’s plenty of money to be won this week, along with plenty of satellites to enter, for the last chance at tickets to next week’s massive PGA DFS week. Keep reading for a first-look at the Valero Texas Open field and an initial lean on some PGA DFS picks that give further analysis to this week, before locking in lineups.

DraftKings & FanDuel PGA DFS Picks: Valero Texas Open
The Course: TPC San Antonio Oaks Course
The Texas Open has been played since the early 1920s, and played in this area almost every year it has been held. Since 2010, the host course has been TPC San Antonio, known for its on-site accommodations.
The “divorce course” was designed by Greg Norman when he was going through a divorce, and it’s said that he took it out on the golf course. While that may not be entirely true, an angry person designing a golf course can have an impact on its difficulty. This is one of the most demanding courses off the tee on the PGA Tour, which will challenge those that struggle in that area.

Facts and Figures
- Off the Tee: This course ranks among the tour’s most difficult off the tee, and the hardest-to-hit fairways come in at 53.98%. The average drive was just over 300 last year, though, so drivers are used plenty off the tee.
- Approach: All those missed fairways lead to a lot of missed greens — 38%, to be exact. That ranked just outside the top 10 hardest on the PGA Tour last year.
- Around the Green and Putting: The green complexes are quite easy, ranking top five least difficult for both scrambling and on the green.

DraftKings Notes and Lineups
This is not something you see very often on the PGA Tour, but only one hole gets over 10% of the DFS Scoring and there are no real shots at birdie streaks. The winning $5 team had a total of six streaks, with three coming from the winner Corey Conners.
$5 Buy-In, $400,000 Guaranteed
Looking back on this lineup from two years ago, seeing Conners and Scottie Scheffler below $7,000 and under 3% owned is eye-opening. A 1.5%-owned, sub-$6,500 winner is not typical at all, but when it happens and it hits, it can be life-changing.
$555 Buy-In $200,000 Guaranteed
The same applies for Conners here as it does above.
The Valero Texas Open Player Preview
Dustin Johnson was a late addition to the tournament, as Kevin Na ended his week in Austin a bit sooner than he had hoped for. The last time Johnson played in the state of Texas the week before the Masters, he put on the green jacket the next week. He got into contention that week at the Houston, and it would not be a shock to see him get into contention again. Other big names coming here instead of heading to Augusta a week early are Tony Finau, Hideki Matsuyama, Ryan Palmer, Abraham Ancer, Scottie Scheffler, Corey Conners, Bernd Wiesberger, Brian Harman and Jordan Spieth. That is a rather strong field with 32 of the world’s top 100 here, especially given what’s on the schedule next week.
Edit: Dustin Johnson has now withdrawn to prepare for the Masters.
Previous Winners
- 2020: Corey Conners
- 2019: Andrew Landry
