PGA DFS Picks: WGC Dell Technologies Match Play

The Tournament and Format

Beyond the dual-tournament week, match play gives us an entirely different game within the game of PGA DFS. Optimal lineups are built by trying to maximize the number of holes a lineup can have by rostering golfers from all different quadrants. Identical to the NCAA’s field of 64, the Match Play consists of most of the world’s best. They are broken into 16 groups of four, with each of the 16 groups having a No. 1 seed. Those top seeds are based on the OWGR. From there the remaining three seeds in each bracket are based on a random drawing of golfers in specific OWGR ranges. One winner from each group will move onto the sweet 16 and will play a single-elimination bracket from then on.

The Course: Austin Country Club

This course is a great setting for any tournament, but especially for match play. Founded just before the turn of the 19th century, Austin Country Club has been around for over 120 years. Carved throughout the banks of the Colorado River, the famous Pennybacker Bridge serves as the backdrop for the iconic 18th hole. The Pete Dye-designed par 71 measuring just shy of 7,100 yards will reward those that navigate the hazards and bunkers.
