PGA DFS: DraftKings Showdown Spotlight Picks for Round 4 of the Charles Schwab Challenge

The Charles Schwab Challenge is underway, and final round PGA DFS showdown contests are here! Typically the biggest contests of the showdown variety each week, it adds an element of finishing points to the already variable format of Showdown. Because of this, golfers that are far down the leaderboard are normally very low-owned. Take last week, for example; at the PGA Championship, Jon Rahm was in 4oth heading into Sunday and was under 10% owned, but with one of the rounds of the day and finishing inside the top 10, he became one of the best plays of the entire slate. We’ll aim to find this week’s Rahm to close out the DraftKings showdown picks for the Charles Schwab Championship.

Round 4 PGA DFS Showdown Picks: Charles Schwab Challenge

Previous Round Recap

Today would always be about Jordan Spieth & Jason Kokrak and just how far they could separate themselves from the field. Well, they did just that, as they lead over the next best golfer by at least four! Then the next best challengers, six back, as Kokrak & Spieth have looked by the far and away from the best in the field since Thursday! Spieth will be looking to go wire to wire for his second win in Texas in the last few months.

Ian Poulter is one of those golfers in the next wave of chasers seven back of Jordan, and he had the round of the day off with a 64. Even another one of those tomorrow, and he’d have to hope both Spieth & Kokrak play over par, just to catch them. It’s been quite a while since we’ve legit had only two golfers that have a decent chance to win the event tomorrow. Another big mover was Lucas Glover, who has amended his opening round 74, making the cut on the number at +1 followed by a five-under 65 today, and he finds himself just an earshot away from the top 10. It looked like a sure missed cut after the first round. The same thing can be said for Harold Varner, who has himself in position for another top 10 tomorrow.

Round 3 Stat Recap

Through three rounds, these are the golfers that are averaging positive strokes gained in all four facets of their game:

  1. Jordan Spieth
  2. Sergio Garcia
  3. Talor Gooch
  4. Kevin Streelman
  5. Brian Harman

The wind isn’t expected to be a problem, so the scoring average should be around even par. It is also worth noting that neither wave will have much of an advantage. It will be hard to fade Spieth on his “home” course playing this well, so assume he will be a part of lineups.

PGA DFS Picks for Round 4 of Charles Schwab Challenge

  • Sebastian Munoz ($8.500): He may be volatile, but Munoz is a scorer. He puts up a ton of birdies each round, but it’s been the bogey avoidance that’s helped him this week, only making 5 (with one double). His putter has been quite hot this week, gaining close to seven strokes in the three rounds, so if that goes cold tomorrow, he may fall down the leaderboard, but having a chance at a top 5 finish, with the bad stretch of golf, he’s on, I don’t think he’ll relinquish the opportunity.
  • Talor Gooch ($7.900): Having played well all three rounds, Gooch has set himself up for another big finish on tour this year. Quietly he’s put together his best season as a PGA Tour, one highlighted by a top 5 at The Players Championship. He’s a good ball-striker, and when his putter is working, he’s a top 10 candidate each time. I like riding the hot hand into tomorrow.
  • Cameron Tringale ($7,900) Through all of the chalk that Triangle has generated, I haven’t played him once. Well, now that his price is rather reasonable, and he’s expected to be low owned starting Sunday in a tie for 27th, it seems like a good buy-low spot. We know form isn’t far out. Even last week take out those two awful holes, and he likely makes the weekend with ease and might have even contended for the Wannamaker,

Sneaky Pick for the Round 4 Showdown

  • John Augenstein ($6,300) If you have been following me for a few years now, you know I like to play the young up-and-comers before anyone else does. Well, I’ve tried to play this guy, and he failed to make the cut in all of these starts, but based on his college career, that wouldn’t last forever. Now, this week, he breezed through his first made cut as a professional and maintained form today. A big day for him tomorrow, as a top 10 would get him into the next event (I think that would be the one after the U.S. Open if I understand exemptions correctly),

  • Tony Finau ($9,800)
  • Ian Poulter ($7,500)
  • Kevin Streelman ($8,600)
