PGA DFS Picks: The Top 3 SuperDraft Picks for The 3M Open

Each week we’re diving into PGA DFS analysis and giving you some of the top PGA DFS picks for SuperDraft with the help of the world’s No.1 DFS player, Alex “Awesemo” Baker, and his SuperDraft Projections (PREMIUM). This week, we say goodbye to Muirfield Village and head to TPC Twin Cities for The 3M Open. After a shrunken field last week, it’s back to normal with the 156-man field and Top 65 and ties making the cut. Though we’re not getting Tiger Woods again, there is a return of another top player in the world — Tommy Fleetwood. Here’s a quick glance behind the curtain at three of Awesemo’s best PGA DFS picks to plug into your lineups for this week’s 3M Open.

1) Erik van Rooyen (1.15x multiplier)

After an immensely tougher Muirfield Village came to life for last week’s Memorial and ate up some of the world’s best players, the Tour is heading back to a scorer’s paradise. It will be a no-place-like-home situation for van Rooyen. Being a Minnesota product, van Rooyen is quite familiar with the TPC Twin Cities setup. After striking the ball like crazy a week ago at Memorial — where he was No. 2 in strokes gained on approach and No. 5 tee to green — there isn’t much to dislike. The field heading into this week’s 3M Open is markedly weaker than Memorial, which is why he has the eighth-best odds in the betting markets (33-1). Van Rooyen is a top-50 player in the world and, according to Awesemo projections, has the sixth-best percentage to win the whole thing.

2) Henrik Norlander (1.40x multiplier)

The Swede has been playing well of late and has made each of the last four cuts, which was capped off by a sixth-place finish at the ultra-tough Memorial. Each of the last three weeks, he’s made no fewer than 17 birdies and has avoided the big number, going double-bogey free. Norlander’s putter has been white hot of late, which is generally a bit of a scary thing to bank on in DFS. Over the last two weeks at Muirfield, he gained 12 strokes putting (nearly 8.5 at Memorial). However, he’s been hitting his irons consistently, and with TPC Twin Cities drawing comps to Rocket Mortgage, which was a birdie-fest, it should be a track that aligns with his skill set.

3) Sam Burns (1.35x multiplier)

Getting Burns at a 1.35x multiplier seems like a bit of a steal here for the 3M Open. It’s likely due to him basically ejecting the last time we saw him in his Round-4 74 at Workday two weeks ago. Outside of that final-round implosion, he’s been in pretty good recent form. With TPC Twin Cities being a track that virtually eliminates one of Burns’ weakest areas, around the green, and gives a bump to off-the-tee game, where he’s 28th overall this season, it could be the making of a good fit. Burns gained almost five strokes on approach at the Workday — and that even factors in his abysmal Sunday — so the last time we saw him, the irons were working well. The 3M looks like the kind of scoring track that could provide the 23-year-old his breakout win.

SuperDraft Honorable Mentions

  • Paul Casey (1.15x multiplier)
  • Tony Finau (1.15x multiplier)
  • Dylan Frittelli (1.45x multiplier)
  • Si Woo Kim (1.50x multipler)
