Round 4 PGA DFS Picks: The Wells Fargo Championship

Previous Round Recap

A tough golf course can sometimes lead to no real standout rounds, as the scoring opportunities are few are far between. But, Mithcell took advantage of just about all of them with a hot putter and a rocket of a tee-ball, gaining over three strokes on the day. It’ll be fun to watch him and McIlroy go head to head tomorrow. Jason Dufner finally put that good ball-striking and very hot iron play to use, gaining over 2.9 strokes putting on the day, and has a chance for his best finishing this year. The other 67 was shot by Richy Werenski, who had all parts of his game working in round three, gaining strokes in all four categories. Luke List, Viktor Hovland, Aaron Wise, Bryson DeChameabu, Xander Schauffele & Kyle Stanley were among those that shot 68.

Statistical Recap through 3 rounds

Trying to use statistical research to try and predict performance is always fun, and when correct, it can certainly lead to some solid low owned plays. Since Quail Hollow’s greens are absolutely pure right now, it’s no surprise to see most of the golfers in the top 5 having a great putting week. In fact, only Luke List is actually losing strokes on the week. No surprise there. Viktor Hovland & Abraham Ancer have gained the next least amount, as their ball-striking has carried them, bot gaining well over six strokes on the week. Others in that category where ball-striking is leading their performance include Jason Dufner, Kyle Stanley, Scott Piercy, Joel Dahmen, Aaron Wise & Russell Knox.

The Wells Fargo Championship PGA DFS Picks

Quail Hollow is a very good golf test for these guys this week, as no one has gotten it to double digits under par yet this event. Mitchell will have the best crack at it tomorrow, but the great thing about this course and its setup this week, that someone who shoots seven-under tomorrow and is at two under or better has a chance to win. That means twenty-three golfers are still live, at least in my opinion. With positional points being assign to players, that should open up the strategy quite a bit. We’ll try and highlight a couple of guys that will be lower-owned heading into the final round.

PGA DFS Picks for Round 4 of The Wells Fargo Championship

  • Xander Schauffele ($10,000) Xander has been waiting for his putter to heat up, and finally, it did here on Saturday, positioning himself to at least have a shot at the win with a nuclear round on Sunday. While he’s failed to get into the winner’s circle over the past few seasons, he’s done just about everything else. Even if he doesn’t shot seven under, he should be playing aggressively all day, and with a hot putter and good iron game, I like his chances to go low.
  • Bubba Watson ($8,600) It’s good to see Bubba back and playing good golf, having another chance at a top 10 tomorrow. Typically when he’s playing his best, it’ll be his ball-striking carrying him, but his irons failed him today, losing a couple of strokes. That won’t happen again on Sunday, and now he just needs his putter to stay warm, as he’s putting himself in great shape off the tee.
  • Cameron Davis ($7,900) Davis has struggled in the past on more difficult tracks, even doing so for much of the Florida swing. But I feel like his game should translate a lot better than it has been doing, so it’s nice to see it pan out. He’s not in the top 10, so I don’t suspect his ownership will be all that high and makes a good pairing with Xander.

Sneaky PGA DFS Pick for the Final Roud

So today, the wind died off in the afternoon, but tomorrow, that’s not expected to be the case. Gusts are supposed to remain high. So if you want to play the tee times and try and get someone that is going out early before most of the wind, look to Wyndham Clark ($6,700). After losing over three strokes with his approaches in round 1, Clark has gained over a stroke in each of the next two rounds. Now, if he can get the rest of his game to follow, he could be info something in the five or six under range. They might be good enough to help a few lineups tomorrow and maybe a top 20 for Clark.

DraftKings and FanDuel Fill-Ins for Wells Fargo Championship

  • Matt Wallace ($9,100)
  • Aaron Wise ($7,100)
  • Keith Mitchell ($7,500)
