Free expert fantasy golf picks this week for DraftKings and FanDuel PGA DFS lineups for the 2022 Arnold Palmer Invitational

The American Express has begun in La Quinta, Calif., and the low DFS golf scores continued in Round 2. The winds kicked up a bit in the late afternoon and held the cut line at six-under through two rounds. Winds are expected to remain through the third round, which should throw a wrench into the low-scoring event. We’ll sift through some of the stats from Round 2 and go over a few of the best PGA DFS Picks for DraftKings and FanDuel lineups for Round 3 on Saturday.

PGA DFS Golf Picks: The American Express Round 3

Round 2 Recap

PGA West (Stadium Course) Average Score 69.65

Tom Hoge leads this rotation through two rounds and played superbly today, hitting almost 90% of his greens while gaining 3.72 strokes tee to green. Sitting just one back of Hoge is Lanto Griffin, who had every part of his game working for him while also enjoying a hot putter. A couple of other rounds to note were Michael Glicic, who shot his second consecutive 68 while gaining over two strokes on his approaches on Friday. Corey Conners had a nice bounce-back round, shooting six-under on the day while gaining strokes through the bag. Lastly, Sungjae Im looked elite with his ball-striking, gaining over four and a half strokes on the day. However, his short game is not so much losing just about two strokes on the day.

Nicklaus Course Average Score 68.92

The stars of the field would have the easiest rotation through two rounds, with the average score coming in around five-under-par. Patrick Cantlay got off to a solid start and was four-under through 10 holes, but the first bogey of the week for him would come on his 12th hole of the day. He’d make two birdies and one bogey coming in to post a four-under 68. The round of the day, however, would go to Will Zalatoris, who would shoot 61, including seven straight birdies. Jon Rahm would take a while to get going in his round, shooting a four-under 68 on the day, including an opening nine-hole 37.

La Quinta Average Score 69.82

Coming into the day, it was clear who the best ball-striker of this group was, at least right now, as Joseph Bramlett gained almost seven strokes ball-striking on the PGA West course. He’d follow that up with another great day, shooting his second straight 65. Sam Ryder would follow up his good first-round score with a four-under 68, while Roger Sloan finds himself in the top 10 after rounds of 66 and 67.

With the wind expected to play a big factor in the third round, avoiding the PGA West course at all costs must be the game plan. That takes Rahm & Cantlay out of the player pool for the round, targeting those playing the easiest of the three courses. With Im having such a good day with his ball-striking, expect him to be the highest owned golfer of the slate.

Below are the top four golfers playing on the La Quinta course, while golfers that are playing the Nicklaus Course could end up with the easiest course tomorrow. Bramlett, Ryder, Sloan and Jared Wolfe will all be playing that course while starting the day in the top 10.

  • Seamus Power ($9,500) A massive tie for third last week at the Sony Open has Power inside the top 50 in the world for the first time in his career. He’s played well of the first two days and now heads to La Quinta to continue the good form.
  • Corey Conners ($8,600): After one of the worst rounds in Round 1 over the Nicklaus Course, Conners bounced back with one of the best at the hardest course. He now heads to La Quinta with conditions expected to be difficult, which should bode well for an elite ball striker. His salary has come down now significantly now and makes him a great first person in the lineup golfer.
  • Denny McCarthy($7,000): Highlighting McCarthy last week as part of our content here at Awesemo.com, he has continued his good form early in this season, with his second straight 67. In Round 2, he did rely heavily on his short game, gaining almost five strokes. That will need to stick around for tomorrow’s round, but it won’t need to be as good to pay it off at this salary.
  • Emiliano Grillo ($6,600): Grillo went under-owned after getting a lofty price tag for the week-long slate. Then a lousy round one, opening with just a one under $7,100, pushes his Round 3 salary down to the value section, not accounting for the solid round today. Heading over to La Quinta tomorrow, Grillo should maintain his good form at the most accessible course this week.
