This column is a quick-hitter article to give you the stats you need to make informed PGA DFS picks for your DraftKings and FanDuel daily fantasy golf lineups. We’re in search of a few recommendations for the second round of the Farmers Insurance. In a typical Showdown GPP, DraftKings will offer upwards of $50,000 to first place for second-and third-round tournaments and sometimes up to $100,000 for the final-round contests. They also provide weekend-long contests that have been offering $25,000 to first place on average. FanDuel has also tried to get into the weekend-long and final-round contests, offering $10,000 and $5,000 to first place in their PGA DFS Showdown contests. Let’s take a look at PGA DFS picks for Round 2 of the Farmers Insurance Open.

PGA DFS Showdown Picks: Farmers Insurance Open Round 2
Previous Round Recap
South CourseÂ
The main course here at the Farmers Insurance Open played as advertised: Over par and difficult. It’ll only get more difficult tomorrow with with rain and wind in the forecast. So while there may be 85 golfers under par, only 23 of them played this course today. I suspect a move backward in the cut line tomorrow to 1 under or possibly even-par.
While there weren’t many good scores on the South Course today — only two in the top 10 — Ryan Palmer had one of them, shooting 6-under 66. Peter Malnati stayed hot in the first round and also shot 66. Maybe the most dangerous score on this course, though, was shot by Rory McIlroy, who looked absolutely impeccable off the tee. He missed one tee shot all day, on the par-5 18th. I suspect if he can shoot 3-under on the easy North Course, he could be very close to the lead heading to the weekend.
Lastly, today’s scoring average on the South Course was 73.617, which I suspect to be at least a shot higher tomorrow. Again, I can see this cut pushing back to even-par given that 62 of the 88 golfers under par will be playing the difficult South Course in tough conditions.
North CourseÂ
The average on the North Course crept into the 60s, 0ne of the lowest scores to par it has seen in quite some time. Patrick Reed and Scottie Scheffler bounced back after last week’s missed cuts with 64 and 65, respectively. Joining Reed at 64 was Alex Noren, who has had a chance to win at Torrey Pines in the past.
Also fitting the missed-cut narrative last week, Sam Burns bounced back this week, shooting 66 and in a tie for fourth. Luke List, Gary Woodland and Brandon Hagy also shot that same score, carrying over their good form from last week.Â

General Strategy and Farmers Insurance PGA DFS Picks
Now we have the weather element to deal with, but that doesn’t really have any bearing on where golfers will tee it up. So, we need to focus on the North Course for our picks, and I’ll sort through a couple of good ones.
Top-10
If we are sticking to only playing golfers teeing it up on the North Course, we only have two options to choose from that are inside the top 10: Ryan Palmer and Malnati. Although they were both boiling with their putters in Round 1, they also gained strokes in every other facet as well, so it’s not a one-trick pony. I would lean Palmer over Malnati simply because Palmer drives the ball much better than Malnati, and that may be a big factor tomorrow.
PGA DFS Picks Outside the Top 10
- Rory McIlroy ($9,900): His driver was so good today that it beat everyone else in the field by 1.1 strokes. He gained three strokes off the tee in Round 1, and if that stays anywhere near as good tomorrow, he’ll be able to take advantage of the much easier North Course regardless of conditions. Plus, he’s cheaper than both Jon Rahm and Xander Schauffele.
- Corey Conners ($7,400): Even-par on the South Course today was quite a decent score, and his ball striking is how he got there. That’s not a surprise to most that follow him, of course, but regardless, it’s still good to see. We are going to need ball strikers in tomorrow’s conditions. He’s one of the best, comes with a cheap salary, and he’s playing the North Course.
Sneaky PGA DFS Pick for Round 2
Max HomaÂ
Homa has a rocky start, but as good pros do, he grinded until the end. A stretch of 4 under through his last seven should give him plenty of momentum heading into the Round 2. His irons were great again, gaining him over three strokes in Round 1. That continued his good form from last week, and he should be able to see the weekend here again playing the North Course on Friday.
DraftKings and FanDuel Farmers Insurance Open Lineup Fill-Ins
- Harry Higgs ($6,700)
- Byeong Hun An ($7,000)
- Hideki Matsuyama ($8,800)
- Marc Leishman ($7,800)
