⛳ PGA DFS Picks: Genesis Invitational Round 3 Showdown Plays l Dustin Johnson 2/20

This column is a quick-hitter article to give you the stats you need to make informed PGA DFS picks for your DraftKings and FanDuel daily fantasy golf lineups. We’re in search of a few recommendations for the third round of the Genesis Invitational. In a typical Showdown GPP, DraftKings will offer upwards of $50,000 to first place for second-and third-round tournaments and sometimes up to $100,000 for the final-round contests. They also provide weekend-long contests that have been offering $25,000 to first place on average. On top of that, FanDuel has tried to get into the weekend-long and final-round contests, offering $10,000 and $5,000 to first place in their PGA DFS Showdown contests. Let’s take a look at PGA DFS picks for Round 3 of the Genesis Invitational.

Round 3 PGA DFS Showdown Picks: Genesis Invitational

Previous Round Recap

Morning Wave

Well, if you had Sam Burns leading by three strokes after two rounds, then run to the ticket window and cash those tickets. Burns continued his torrid pace of gaining strokes with his putter and on the approach. He gained almost five strokes on the day, for an incredibly impressive two-day total north of 12. The second best scores turned in from this wave came from Jason Kokrak and Tyler McCumber at seven-under for the two days. Scott Harrington tied Burns with the low second-round score of 67.

Afternoon Wave

No one came close to the lead set by Burns, but Joaquin Niemann, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Dustin Johnson all got within five at a time.

General Strategy and Genesis Invitational PGA DFS Picks

Heavy winds are forecasted to come in tomorrow afternoon, right around when the leaders are teeing off. I suspect there will be a bit of an edge to the golfers going out first tomorrow.

Top-10

Golfers in the top 10 will be on the first tee starting around 12:30, just about a half-hour before the heavy winds are supposed to start. The field needs Burns to really blow up in the wind for this to be a competitive golf match again. Given the fact that the number 1 player in the world is in second place, I’m not so sure how comfortable Burns will feel, even with a 5 stroke lead.

PGA DFS Picks Outside the Top 10

  • Xander Schauffele ($10,000) Just as I put DJ in this spot yesterday, I’m putting Xander here today. Heading out at 8:16 a.m., he should get a solid nine holes in before the wind starts to take over, which in showdown formats, is all you need to gain an edge.
  • Viktor Hovland ($9,000) After birding his first three holes of the day on Friday, I thought Hovland was going take it real low and get himself back into the mix, but he couldn’t keep the mojo going. Luckily for Hovland, he is in one of the first groups out tomorrow morning, which is why he’s someone I’ll be targeting for the third round.
  • Cameron Davis ($7,500) Another weekend for Davis as his form continues to improve. Davis, thru the first two rounds, has only struggled with his around the green game, gaining in all other facets. That’s typically not the stat you lose the most in, so Im looking for that turnaround here this week and put the other parts of his game that are hot to good use. Also, he’s in one of the first groups out tomorrow morning as well.

Sneaky PGA DFS Pick for Round 3

Lanto Griffin ($7,100)

Lanto typically relies on his short game to do most of his damage. However, it’s been his consistent ball-striking and a hot putter that’s gotten him into the weekend. Typically when he gets hot with the putter, it stays around for the entire tournament. I’d like to be on the right side of that. Mackenzie Hughes and Patrick Rodgers fit this bill almost identically as well, so if the salary is an issue, or you just simply don’t like Griffin, look to Hughes or Rodgers for the same reasons.

DraftKings and FanDuel Genesis Invitational Lineup Fill-Ins

  • Brendan Steele ($6,800)
  • Jon Rahm ($9,600)
  • Tony Finau ($9,200)
  • Cameron Tringale ($7,800)
