DraftKings is offering 20K to first place for tomorrow’s Final Round Slate!
- Scoring Numbers:
- Round 1- 69.29
- Round 2-70.34
- Round 3- 69.6667
- 30 eagles through three rounds
Looks blustery actually…Finally. But it looks like the mid-morning guys will get a slightly soft front nine, and the leaders will face 15-20 sustained in the afternoon. Should bring up scoring quite a bit.
Round Three Commentary
There is no other way to put it, Justin Thomas went absolutely nuclear on the field today. Beating the stroke average by almost nine shots, JT set the course record at Medinah today with two eagles, both coming on amazing approach shots. He gained a career-best 6.16 strokes on his approaches today, having yet to gain a full shot in the category thru two rounds. Something obviously clicked today. Tony Finau had a highlight eagle of his own on the third hole today, but couldn’t even come close to keeping pace with Thomas, who sits six clear of both Finau and Patrick Cantlay.
Tony Finau finds himself searching for a putting stroke again, losing almost three shots today, while continuing to perform admirably in the ball striking department, as he leads Collin Morikawa by a full two shots in the SG BS vs. Putting. Xander Schauffele, J.B. Holmes, & Lucas Glover round out the top in the category. Look out for those guys tomorrow, specifically Xander and Glover who’ve got a chance to get into the top 5.
Final Round Picks
The only reason to fade JT tomorrow is that he has a six-shot lead and may not play aggressive. But that’s not really JT’s style, so if you think the irons click again, he’s an obvious play. I’m going to take a bit of gamble and go to Xander.
Xander Schauffele ($9,200)
Having already won at East Lake two years ago, any type of “head start” he can have next week would be an aide to him. If he finishes second, he can climb all the way up to third behind JT and Brooks, and only three shots back of a 15MILLION dollar payday. He’s gaining just about 2 and quarter strokes from tee to green over the first three rounds but has yet to fully find the putter. It’s coming tomorrow.
Stud or Value Pick outside of the Top 10
Gary Woodland ($7,500)
He said after his round today, and I quote, “I found something last night and ran with it. I feel great about it”. At this price level and sitting just a couple shots outside the top 10 he’s got a chance to not only improve his position on for next week but also secure a spot on the president’s cup team. Plenty still left for him to play for tomorrow and with the added confidence from today’s round he’s a great second person on your squad.
Sneaky Pick Outside of top-10
Wyndham Clark ($6,600)
He drives it very well and is a great putter. Well, we saw that on full display today, along with his irons. Gaining 2.68 on the day. He’s got virtually no chance to qualify next week unless he pulls a 61 out of his bag, but at least your getting a guy you know is going to give you plenty of bride looks tomorrow and is putting well.
Tommy Fleetwood ($9,500)
Lucas Glover ($7,800)
Kevin Tway ($6,900)
Emiliano Grillo ($6,500)
