PGA DFS: Showdown Spotlight for Round 4 of the Rocket Mortgage Classic

This column is a quick-hitter article to give you the stats you need to make informed PGA DFS picks for your DraftKings + FanDuel daily fantasy lineups and give you a couple of recommendations for the Rocket Mortgage Classic. On a typical showdown contest, DraftKings will offer upwards of 50K to first for rounds 2 & 3 showdown, and sometimes up to 100K for the final round contests. They also provide weekend-long contests that have been offering 25K to first for most weekends. Lastly, FanDuel has also tried to get into the weekend-long and final round contests, offering 10K & 5K to first.

Previous Round Commentary

The Wolff roared and barked up the leaderboard today, firing a stellar eight under 64, tieing his score from yesterday. Stated in last night’s article, Wolff has that winning mentality, seen for years, and it’s no surprise to see him flourish when the lights are brightest. He’s had a rough go of it late, at least on the making cuts side, but he’s been steadily working on his process, and clearly, it’s paying off.

Tony Finau, Hideki Matsuyama & Tom Lewis all made the best of their Saturday rounds after making the cut on the number, all jolting up the leaderboard from last to inside the top 20 in just one round. Some of the other big movers on the day were Mark Hubbard, Ryan Armour, and Luke List. While Webb Simpson & Chris Kirk failed to keep pace.

The expected Weather:

4/4 days with ideal conditions, something the players absolutely to see, but for us gamers, maybe not so much. Perfect temps with little winds, what more can one ask for?!

Previous Round Stat Review

Seamus Power & Troy Merritt made their first bogey of the week today, so now no one remains bogey-free. Let’s take a look now at the round 3 leaderboards for birdies or better.

BOB Leaders Round 3

  1. Matthew Wolff (10)
  2. Tom Lewis (9)
  3. Welsey Bryan & Kevin Chappell (8)
  4. Ryan Armour, Mark Hubbard, Arjun Atwal, Adam Schenk & Micheal Gellerman (7)

Strokes Gained Ball Striking vs. Putting

Lucas Glover still can’t find his putter after round one, losing another .69 strokes today, and maintains first place in the pivotal ball-striking vs. putting category. Henrik Norlander, typically one of the best putter s on tour, wasn’t today, losing almost two strokes, and is in second right behind Glover. Webb Simpson, Harry Higgs, & Harold Varner III are the other ones that make up the top 5 here.

PGA DFS Slate Preview:

DraftKings is offering $100,000 to first for tomorrow’s final round contest! Now, remember finishing points ARE awarded for the final round showdown contests on DraftKings.

PGA DFS Showdown & Weekend Picks

Top-10 Breakdown & Pick

It’s been the Matthew Wolff show these last two rounds, going 16 under par over them. No one has been able to keep pace, but tournament favorite Bryson DeChambeau whose yet to put it all together, trails only by three. As does Ryan Armour, who will be paired up with Wolff in the final round, as Wolff avoids having to play with Bryson. Mark Hubbard, Chris Kirk, Seamus Power, & Troy Meritt will all be looking for the first top 10i n quite some time ont he PGA Tour, as they sit tied for fourth heading into Sunday. It’ll be hard to fade either Wolff or DeChambeau, so don’t expect me to stray too far away from them. But there’s one more guy who’s won recently that’s crept into the top 10…

Luke List ($7,000)

He had the COVID scare last week, playing with someone who tested positive, and you could tell he was unnerved at TPC River Highlands—now moving on to Detriot Golf Club, a better fit for his game. List has got it going on, and even found his irons on Saturday, gaining over a stroke on the day. He’s a bomber, so all these par5s must look very inviting to him. I’ll hope for a tidbit lower ownership as he’s kind of snuck up the leaderboard.

Stud or Value Pick Outside of Top 10

Hideki Matsuyama ($9,800)

His ball-striking returned over the first two days and made just enough to get him to the weekend. In true Matsuyama fashion, he went off today, to the tune of a bogey-free 65. He had some clutch par saves, but still missed a handful inside 10 feet, which could have really helped his chances for tomorrow. Still, looking to gain momentum heading into the next two weeks, Hideki will look to make it two for two over the weekend and get inside the top 10 or even 5.

Sneaky Pick Outside of Top 10

Henrik Norlander ($7,300)

I mentioned that this guy statistically is a very good putter, but hasn’t found it this week. That’s why I’m all excited about his irons staying hot in round three, hopefully, something that’s here to stay for at least one more round. He’s a bit more expensive then I’d like him to be, especially if I’m trying to stack three or four studs, but on the less aggressive builds, I’ll slide him as the last guy in the lineup!

PGA DFS Lineup Fill-Ins:

Kevin Chappell ($6,500)

Viktor Hovland ($10,000)

Adam Schenk ($7,100)
