PGA DFS: Showdown Spotlight for the Wyndham Championship Round 3 l Play for $50K

This column is a quick-hitter article to give you the stats you need to make informed PGA DFS picks for your DraftKings + FanDuel daily fantasy lineups and give you a couple of recommendations for the Wyndham Championship. On a typical showdown contest, DraftKings will offer upwards of $50,000 to first for rounds 2 and 3 showdown and sometimes up to $100,000 for the final-round contests. They also provide weekend-long contests that have been offering $25,000 to first for most weekends. Lastly, FanDuel has also tried to get into the weekend-long and final round contests, offering $10,000 and $5,000 to first.

Previous Round Commentary

I would not have guessed that after round two, ten under would be leading, but none of the leaders from yesterday were able to get anything going. That brought everyone who made it to the weekend into the golf tournament, with the cut only seven shots back of the lead. Crazy. Adding to that, 78 golfers made the weekend! The highest number we’ve seen since the restart. Still, that didn’t really help the 6/6 % all that much with two late moves from high owned golfers Chez Reavie, & Ryan Moore.

The Expected Weather for Tomorrow’s PGA DFS Slate

It looks like storms are expected tomorrow afternoon, so they’ve pushed up tee times for the third round.

Previous Round Stat Review

The scoring average was even easier today, with a scoring average of 68.25, or thereabouts, which pushed the cut to a -3. Let’s take a look at some of the most significant differences in strokes gained in ball striking from rounds 1 to 2:

Strokes Gained Ball Striking Round Differences:

Billy Horschel’s putter carried him in round one, but not in round two, as he gained 4.5 more strokes ball striking in round two than in round 1. Peter Uihlein, Monday qualifier Brinson Paolini, Ben Martin, Scotting Stallings, & Doc Redman round out the golfers that improved their ball striking the most from rounds one to two.

BOB Leaders In Round 2

  1. Bronsoon Burgoon, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Kristoffer Ventura (9)
  2. C.T. Pan, Sungaje Im, Tommy Fleetwood (8)

Strokes Gained Ball Striking vs. Putting

Zach Jonhson was able to bounce back considerably in round two, gaining almost a stroke putting, but still leads the category, at least of golfers that made the cut. Hank Lebioda, on the other hand, lost five strokes on the day and took over second place. Luke List, Davis Love III & Ben Martin round out the top five. Indeed an interesting bunch of names we have there.

Top 10 Breakdown and PGA DFS Pick(s)

A four-way tie heading into the weekend as we have the most condensed leaderboard since the return. Seventy-eight golfers are within seven shots of the lead. That includes 16 golfers that are within in two! Crazy. It’s incredibly likely that when the leaders tee off tomorrow, they will no longer be in the lead.

In terms of whose in the top 10 heading into the weekend, Si Woo Kim, Billy Horschel, Mark Hubbard, Talor Gooch, & Andrew Landry join Hoge & Varner. Harris English & Doc Redman, & Shane Lowry present some more prominent names that also made a move today.

Doc Redman ($8,000)

Both he and Lowry are in great spots tomorrow, sitting just one back, but Redman seems to have a little more upside in the thank. Albeit Lowry has gained over as stroke with his approaches in each of the first two rounds, Redman is actually yet to make bogey thru 36 holes. He’s the only one in the field to have done that.

Stud or Value Pick Outside of Top 10

Christiaan Bezuidenhout ($7,400)

We saw the upside today, nine birdies on the round, and his irons get going, and he puts the ball in play, he’s dangerous. I hope we aren’t around too late on him, but another good one should get him a chance at his first top 10 on the PGA Tour. A great course for him to do so.

Sneaky PGA DFS Pick Outside of Top 10

Chris Baker ($6,400)

Two solid round with his irons, Baker matched it with a hot putter on Friday en route to a seven-under 63. Again, I hope we aren’t a round late on him, but at least it wasn’t’ one big round with his irons, and one bad one, it was two good ones. That’s what we get to hang our hats on.

Lineup Fill-Ins

Paul Casey ($9,400)

Jordan Spieth ($8,900)

C.T. Pan ($6,700)

Shane Lowry ($7,900)
