PGA DFS Picks: DraftKings Showdown 3M Open Championship Round 4

Cameron Tringale, some who dubbed him as the most overpriced DFS golf picks this week on DraftKings and FanDuel, finds himself in command with a one-shot lead heading into Sunday. It was a blustery day out there at TPC Twin Cities, as the 18th hole alone gave us scores ranging from a 3 to a 12. Yup, a 12. Sung Kang would not be the last one remaining after getting demolished by the hole. That simple risk-reward element resonates well with gamers as we head into the final round of the 3M Open and the biggest PGA DFS showdown contests of the week.

PGA DFS Showdown Picks: 3M Open Round 4

Previous Round Recap

With storms rolling through overnight and into the morning hours, the players were sent out in threesomes going off of both tees. That had the field all going off in a two-hour window. Action would pick up right away, as Keith Mitchell would birdie his first seven holes of the day. He had a birdie lip out on his 8th hole, and from there, he wasn’t able to get the mojo back, finishing at five-under for the day. The storms that rolled through would leave plenty of wind, as the scoring average was the highest of the three days. Beau Hossler would turn in the round of the day, with a six-under 65, and is in the mix again here late in the season.

Two other great rounds were shot by golfers highlighted in this article, as Gary Woodland shook off an opening double bogey to shot 67, and Cameron Champ continues to get better shooting the same score. Woodland’s day would move him into second place and a spot with Tringale in the final group. Pat Perez spoke to Amanda Ballionis after his stellar 66 that moved him into a tie for third and stated how important working with Claude Harmon has been lately.

Notables

Matthew Wolff continued his consistent form, with a third straight score in the 60s, and leads the tournament’s big names at seven under. Not too far behind, however, with decent Saturdays, Patrick Reed & Tony Finau are both at six under and will need something magical to get it done tomorrow. Jhonattan Vegas and Charl Schwartzel are also in the mix after firing their third straight score under par. Sergio Garcia, who leads the field in strokes gained tee to green, looked like he would make his mark today, going in four-under through his first six holes, but, like Mitchell, would falter on his back nine and wound up shooting just two under for the day.

The 3M Open PGA DFS Picks

The breeze brought on by the overnight storms will dissipate as tomorrow is expected to be a perfect day for golf. That could open the door for someone to go really low and steal this tournament with a great round on Sunday. I’m going to go right back to Woodland & Champ, even though their ownership is likely to double after today’s performance. Both are playing extremely well, and for Champ, he’s putting well, which has been the only crux of his game lately.

PGA DFS Picks for Round 4 of the 3M Open

Patrick Reed ($9,400) After just squeaking through the cut with sub-par (no pun intended) play the first two days, Reed finally found his game in round 3. Gaining over a stroke with his approaches, and around the green, as well as .88 with his putter, Reed climbed his way up from the depths of the leaderboard to inside the top 30. Just two early birdies will move him into a tie for 12th, as the packed leaderboard lends itself to play some of the more popular names down the leaderboard. That’s what I’ll go for with Reed and Finau, and I hope we get a bit lower ownership since they are outside of the top 20.
Tony Finau ($9,800) Confidence with the putter? It seems like that’s what Tony’s got this week, gaining almost four strokes over the first three rounds. If we can get his ball striking to click as it did in round two, big things can happen in the final round. Now I’m not calling for a six-shot come from behind win or anything, but certainly, something inside the top 10 wouldn’t be out of the question.
Matthew Wolff ($9,200) Playing the stars of the event down the leaderboard a bit will also lead me directly to Wolff. He’s been steady all week with his iron play and finally found a rhythm off the tee in round three, gaining just about a stroke. His putter has also been fin this week, gaining just about as stroke on the field, and with so many other names around his price that are above him on the leaderboard, I expect ownership to be somewhere in the teens.

Sneaky Pick for the Round 4 Showdown

Michael Gellerman ($6,000) At first, I started writing about Aaron Baddeley (who I also like quite a bit for the final round). I had to stop and switch to Gellerman. His irons have been too good lately to pass up, especially at the minimum salary. He’s also one of only two golfers priced below $6,300 to be inside the top 25 of the leaderboard, joining Michael Kim. Gellerman’s irons aren’t just a one-week thing, as continued success with them is what intrigues me for the final round. One good day with the putter, and Gellerman could be in line for his first top 10 of the season. A much-needed result for his season.
