PGA DFS: Showdown Spotlight Picks for WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational Golf Round 2 | DraftKings & FanDuel

Ideal conditions greeted the players with sunny skies for Round 1 of the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational. Only 15 golfers in the field of 68 shot over par on the round, including Jordan Spieth. Spieth was 4 over through his first five before a rebound to close out his round. Round 2 contests are big once again, with DraftKings offering $25,000 to first. Let’s dive into some PGA DFS picks for Showdown and Single-Game contests on DraftKings and FanDuel.

Previous Round Recap

Jim Herman birdied the first hole and posted a score that was not topped for quite some time. A few would match him, including Carlos Ortiz, Ian Poulter and Matthew Wolff. But they all fell short of Harris English, who shot 28 on his front nine, birdieing seven of his first nine. He made two early bogeys on the back nine before finishing with three over his last four holes to post the best round of the day at 62.

Bryson DeChambeau looked in really good shape on Thursday. His approaches looked better, his putter looked good, and he did not have to do much around the green today. Scottie Scheffler birdied his first three holes and finished at 5 under as well. Marc Leishman found a spot of form in Round 1, not breaking his putter and actually putting well, and posted a 5-under 65. The average score for the day was -1.6 or 68.4

Notables

Will Zalatoris’ first appearance since injuring his back at the British Open went well, and he is in a pack of golfers that shot 66 on Day 1. Daniel Berger got himself into the conversation yet again with an opening-round 66. Justin Thomas had it going at one point but played his last five holes at 1 over and finished the day at 3 under, as did Collin Morikawa, who played his last four holes at 3 under to post 67. Morikawa was able to do that while losing strokes on his approaches, so keep an eye on him the rest of the week.

WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational PGA DFS Picks

TPC Southwind is primarily a second-shot golf course, but DeChambeau put on his best off the tee performance and is among the leaders because of it. However, he is the only one in the top 10 golfers that had top five strokes gained off the tee for Round 2. In contrast, the top five performances on the approach in Round 1 has four golfers inside the top 10 and only Thomas outside of it.

PGA DFS Picks for Round 2 of WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational

  • Cameron Smith ($7,600): When in form, some golfers litter the leaderboard with good finishes. When out of form, though, their missed cuts pile up quickly. Smith broke out of a bit of a slump at the Olympics and carried that momentum over to this week. His short game looks excellent and his off-tee game is solid, so now all that has to follow is his irons.
  • Abraham Ancer ($7,500): Sticking with these lower-owned value plays here for Round 2, Ancer was perfect for this course. Hitting over 75% of his greens in regulation and gaining strokes on his approach, Ancer just needs to capitalize on the solid tee-to-green play.
  • Corey Conners ($7,400): Like Morikawa, Conners is typically known for his strong iron play, ranking in the top 10 on tour. If he putts well, he could jump up the leaderboard in a hurry.

Sneaky Pick for the Round 2 Showdown

  • Min Woo Lee ($6,500): Lee continued his strong run of form in Round 1. His iron play was impressive, hitting 83% of his greens. Match that up with 1.9 strokes gained on the approach, and his irons looked very good. He struggled around the green a bit in Round 1 when he did miss the green, so he will need to sure that up if he wants to get in the top 10.
