PGA DFS Showdown Picks: WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational
Previous Round Recap
Moving day would start with a flurry, with Jordan Spieth one of the first to tee off. After his short birdie miss on three, some thought that he wouldn’t provide the spark, but he did, starting on the next hole. He holed out from off the green on four for birdie and would not look back posting one of the best of the day, seven under 63. Sergio Garcia would show the power of good ball-striking, finally matched up with a decent putter, as he shot five-under 65 playing alongside Collin Morikawa, and it looked rather simple. A few others would match that number of 65 from the morning golfers, including Cameron Champ, while Hideki Matsuyama would get himself into the conversation again with a six-under 64.
Dustin Johnson would shoot his second straight 65 on Saturday, moving up to 11 under for the tournament and at least within striking distance of the lead. The same can be said for Paul Casey, who put together a bogey-free 65 on the day. Tyrell Hatton and our leader Harris English have put DraftKings to shame with their pricing this week. Hatton’s lowest round of the week came on Saturday with a six birdie one bogey performance.
Notables
None of these golfers above would make as big a move on Saturday as Bryson DeChamebeau would as he continued to drive the ball superbly on Saturday and put continued his strong approach and putting display. A couple of weeks and pounds removed from his COVID-19 diagnosis, DeChambeau will look for his first win of the season tomorrow. Abraham Ancer & Cameron Smith have clearly pulled momentum from their Olympic performance of last week, as they also will have a shot to win tomorrow. For Ancer, he’ll be seeking his first PGA Tour title.

PGA DFS Picks for Round 4 of WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational
- Dustin Johnson ($9,800): After back-to-back 65s and looking comfortable with the putter, Johnson is definitely a dark horse to win this thing tomorrow. He should be rather high owned given his play over the last two days, but the price discount between he and say English is too steep. Stick with Johnson and the discounted price.
- Jordan Spieth($8,500) Two below-average rounds, and no one wanted to touch Jordan in round three. With ownership right at 10%, gamers that went there today got the highest scorer on the slate. In addition to that, his first two rounds weren’t all that bad either, even as the score suggested, as he lost four strokes due to two silly water balls. One on the par 3 4th, the only water ball of the week on that hole, and off the tee on 18. A couple of putts missed inside of three feet as well, and he could be in the mix for the win again. Easy to roster him given these stats and the price discount after basically no ownership.
- Hideki Matsuyama ($7,600) Playing the priced down stud during showdown has worked this week 3/4 times, only missing Patrick Cantlay yesterday. Even though he wasn’t that bad, shooting a 69, he underperformed with just two birdies and one bogey. But, the other three times, it worked with Ancer, Smith & Casey. The difference between those three and Cantlay was that Cantlay hadn’t really shown form yet, while the other three have. For Hideki, he showed it to us in round three, to the tune of FIVE strokes gained on the approach. Only a few golfers in the world can do something like that in a round, and not something I want to fade going into the final round.
Sneaky Pick for the Round 4 Showdown
- Garrick Higgo ($6,500) Winning his first-ever PGA Tour event, Higgo has expectingly gone through a bit of regression. But here this week, not having to worry about a cut, and Higgo has bounced back somewhat. He’s still struggling with his irons a bit, but the other parts of his game have looked solid this week. At this price, you can really stack the board with the other five golfers.
