Friday Weather
Woah, boy… Morning storms possible, which would cause a delay, wind advisory in effect from 11 a.m. to7 p.m. Yikes. If anything is delayed, that means both waves will have to deal with the wind. If I had to bet on something, it would be that play gets suspended around 10:30 tomorrow and doesn’t’ start again until 2:30. That means the p.m. wave won’t tee off until 4:30, only getting in nine holes. This bet suggests that each wave will get nine holes in the hard conditions.
Round One CommentaryÂ
Russell Henley’s stellar round one has the course history truthers coming out in full force. While some of that may be true, he also was striking his irons fantastically heading into the week. His day was overshadowed, however, by Austin Cook and Talor Gooch. Both of them had a great days tee to green gain, while Gooch putted a bit better than Cook. Speaking of putting, these golfers couldn’t find anything with the putter but did well ball striking:
- Ben Taylor
- Sam Ryder
- David Hearn
- Jhonattan Vegas
- Matt Every
- Kevin Chappell
With the wind expected to pick up tomorrow, putting will be abnormally important, as will the irons. Here are the golfers that found a good putting stroke out there today:
- Cole Hammer
- Michael Gligic
- Sepp Straka
- Talor Gooch
- Tom Lewis
Round Two Showdown PicksÂ
Top-10 Pick
Russ Henley is the only guy priced above $8,000 in the top 10, and only Cameron Tringale joins him in the top 20. Gambling on the weather, and assuming each wave plays nine holes in the bad weather, I’m going to ride Henley as my stud for tomorrow’s round. Gaining strokes everywhere, including around the green and putting, should help him tomorrow.
On that same weather bet, there’s no chance I won’ roster Cole Hammer tomorrow. I’m in at this point.
Stud or Value Pick outside of Top 10
Maverick McNealy ($7,000)
With this pick, I’ll take the other side of the weather and get McNealy going out early with Beau Hossler and Scottie Scheffler. I like all three quite a bit, and all of them seem to be in form after round one, scoring well above the field average in their wave.
Sneaky Pick Outside of Top 10
Henrik Norlander ($6,600)
Known for his putting, Norlander played great tee to green in round one, gaining 2.86 ball striking, 2.06 coming in his approaches. We haven’t seen his name much and he doesn’t get a ton of starts, so tomorrow will be an important one for him. Norlander goes out early, splitting the recommendations for tomorrow’s slate.
Lineup Fill-InsÂ
Cameron Tringale ($8,900)
Karmer Hickock ($7,300)
Brandon Wu ($6,900)
