PGA DFS Round 2 Recap & Sweatsheet

For the second straight day, outside of four holes, the course played very difficult. +1s ended up getting in easily, as the +2s even caught a glimmer of hope late, before settling at +1. That allowed around 15% of lineups to get 6/6 lineups thru this week, a bit higher with the limited field size.

Day 1 leader Matt Kuchar maintained his hot putter in round two, but only needed a 69 to maintain his two-shot lead. A few studs made headway, however, as we head into the weekend, as Rory McIlroy sits just two back. Wyndham Clark has run into a little bit of form now, as he is close to the lead again after 36 holes, which isn’t the first time he’s done that in the past month or so. Harold Varner finally breaks his missed cut streak, and this time in great fashion, as he also heads into the weekend just two back of Kuchar. The low round of the day goes to Adam Scott, whose seven under 64 bested Dustin Johnson & Charles Howell III by two.

PGA DFS Statistical Analysis

Sadly, to my dismay, Bryson Dechcambeau’s driving came back down to earth today, only gaining a third of a stroke. His irons ticked up a bit, but his putter was flat yet again. He isn’t striking it nearly as good as Paul Casey, who gained almost six strokes ball striking in the two rounds, while Varner III, Patrick Cantlay & Sergio Garcia, round out the top 5.

Xander Schauffele still can’t get in touch with these greens, losing almost five shots in the two rounds, and he leads Cantlay over the slimmest of margins in the SG: BS vs. SG P stat. Talor Gooch, Sergio Garcia, & Charles Howell II round out the top five in said category.

PGA DFS Final-Round Picks

Top-10 Pick

Adam Scott ($9,100)

Switching back to the broomstick putter, Scott caught fire in round two with seven birdies on the day! He gained over five strokes tee to green on the round and another couple with the putter. It was evenly balanced between all three facets, which is an even more encouraging sign. The Aussie won in his last start and could make it two starts in a row with a strong weekend push this weekend.

PGA DFS Stud or Value Pick Outside of Top 10

Sergio Garcia ($7,800)

In his first start on the PGA Tour this season, Garcia picked right up where he left off last year. Playing and striking the ball well, just not putting or scoring all that well. He had a chance at a nice little run on his back nine, but just could capitalize in the end. Still, having gained over five strokes tee to green in the first two rounds, he could be in for a big weekend charge if he can get the flat stick rolling. I’m ok betting on that at this price knowing the ball striking is there. Or at least seems to be.

Sneaky Pick Outside of Top 10

Sebastian Munoz ($6,400)

One of the guys I’m kicking myself a bit over for not having enough of him in week-long contests. He gained another two strokes from tee to green today, while excelling at his iron game, gaining over 1.5. He also caught fire with the putter late, after a bad start, and could be a great motivator for his weekend push. Munoz is no stranger to the winner’s circle, winning just a few months back in the fall circuit.

PGA DFS Lineup Fill-Ins

The pair of Jordan Spieth & Tiger Woods are playing together. I’ll have PLENTY.

Si Woo Kim- 6,100

Sam Burns $6,100

Collin Morikawa ($8,200)
