Tournament Update

DraftKings is offering $10,000 to first for the third round slate with $50,000 GTD, and also 10K to first with 30K GTD for the weekend-long slate.

Saturday Weather

The winds are now going to remain thru the weekend, with 15-25 MPH expected yet again. The other element tomorrow is that it’s going to be very cold tomorrow morning, at least for Florida, expected below 50.

PGA DFS Round 2 Recap and Sweatsheet

The scoring average for the different waves did average out today, but still almost a shot and a half over the first two days. Rory McIlroy couldn’t keep his hot putter in round two and allowed the field to catch up to him. Ty Hatton didn’t have that same problem, however, jetting out to a two-shot lead against Rory and tied with Sung Kang. Danny Lee had the round of the day, shotting 67  this morning, and that also sent up flying up the leaderboard, sitting just one back. Matt Jones & Sung Kang had 68, as Bay Hill provided quite the test for the players today.

PGA DFS Statistical Analysis

A couple of our golfers from this list last night failed to make the cut, no surprise there, while others now will try and catch fire with the putter over the weekend. Collin Morikawa is once again showcasing exactly what Ben and I talked about on the show on Wednesday. Maybe he’s just NOT a good putter. Joel Dahmen typically is but hasn’t been over the first few days, losing on average of 1.71 strokes, while striking it very well, gaining over three per round. Morikawa sits right behind Dahmen in the Strokes Gained: Ball-Striking vs. Putting, while Xinjun Zhang, Tom Hoge, & Keegan Bradley will all look to find something on the greens this weekend. They, along with Hideki Matsuyama & KH Lee, have gained at least three more strokes ball-striking than they have putting.

There are a few “Spiethers”*TM* here this week, as Scott Harington & Robby Shelton both found the weekend because of their putter, gaining almost four more strokes with the flat stick than ball striking.

PGA DFS Second Picks and Strategy

Top-10 Pick

A couple of more studs join Rory McIlroy inside the top 10 this week, as Sungjae Im looks to make it back to back wins in consecutive weeks. Patrick Reed also looks to make it two straight wins as he’s in the mix yet again as well. Throw in a Marc Leishman whose looking for his second win of the season, and we’ve got a good looking leaderboard. We won’t forget about Tyrrell Hatton, either who just loves the greens here.

Brendon Todd ($6,800)

Looking for a low owned play inside the top 10 is tough, but I don’t think games will be jumping right back to Todd here. English & Kang are both cheap, and Hoge is also playing better tee to green than Todd, so I expect most to make that decision. He’s had a great resurgence, a marvel to watch, and now should be considered among the upper echelon of regular tour players.

PGA DFS Stud or Value Pick Outside of Top 10

Hideki Matsuyama ($9,900)

A tough start to today’s round, as Hideki just couldn’t ever get it going. At one point, though, he was four over for the round, and he was able to battle back and shot 73. He’s been simmering all year, but just can’t avoid that one bad round every week. 73 isn’t bad though, considering the conditions, and sits only five back. With how good he’s been on the weekend, this could be his breakthrough week if he can get the putter to cooperate.

Sneaky Pick Outside of Top 10

Kevin Na ($6,900)

When this guy doesn’t withdraw, he’s quietly played well this season. These are also perfect conditions for him, with the wind high, and flighting the ball matters. The seven birdies aren’t what you want to see in showdowns, but somewhere in the 30 point range would have been good enough to get on the winning lineup yesterday… He can do that with a normal round tomorrow.

Collin Morikawa ($9,200)

Jimmy Walker ($6,400)

Matt Wallace ($6,800)
