PGA DFS: Showdown Spotlight Round 4 of the Bermuda Championship

This column is a quick-hitter article to give you the stats you need to make informed PGA DFS picks for your DraftKings + FanDuel daily fantasy lineups and give you a couple of recommendations for the final round of the Bermuda Championship. On a typical Showdown contest, DraftKings will offer upwards of $50,000 to first for rounds 2 and 3 showdown and sometimes up to $100,000 for the final-round contests. They also provide weekend-long contests that have been offering $25,000 to first for most weekends. Lastly, FanDuel has also tried to get into the weekend-long and final-round contests, offering $10,000 and $5,000 to first.

Previous Round Recap

The winds were noticeably down today, albeit still there, but play was certainly easier for those that did make the cut. The day started off with a couple of bangs, as both Justin Suh & Kristoffer Ventura weren’t able to make what they needed to 18 to make the cut, and Pat Perez, after making the cut withdrew from the event. Wonderful. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one with a lineup he destroyed.

The low score for the day was 65, shot by Ryan Brehm while AMatt Jones & Adam Schenk got themselves into position with a pair of 66s. Doc Redman from the leaders was able to keep pace, shooting 67, and will have a one-stroke lead heading into tomorrow. Overnight leader Wyndham Clark wasn’t able to putt as well today but still managed a one-under 70 with not his best stuff and will play in the final group with Redman & Ryan Armour, the other overnight leader.

Doug Ghim had a nice bounce-back round in calmer conditions, ad sets himself up for his first top 10 on the PGA Tour, ever? Yup, ever.  His talent has always been there, but talent doesn’t always equate to success.

*Note: For some reason, the statistical feed is down for the tournament. However, if you go to the leaderboard on the PGA Tour website and click each individual player’s name, you can get Greens in Regulation, Driving Accuracy, Distance, and Putts per Greens in Regulation.

General Strategy and PGA DFS Picks

Not having a working feed is quite an annoyance when trying to compare golfers. It’s rather ancient how we have to go out about it in this day and age when betting is becoming more and more prevalent. Anyway, I’ll try my best to sift through the leaderboard and find some stats we can take into tomorrow’s round.

With the average wind over the last two days reaching 25 MPH, golfers should be used to playing in it by now, and they’ll get something similar tomorrow. Maybe a bit less than today, but still enough where it’s noticeable.

Lastly, my obligatory Final Round showdown comment, finishing points are assigned to golfers for the final round showdown contests.

Top 10

Kiradech Aphinbarnrat ($7,500)

One of the few tournaments that Kiradech gets into on the PGA Tour is making the most of it, giving himself a chance at another one next week at the Houston Open. He’s notoriously a great putter and can lite it up in a hurry. If he gives himself more chances tomorrow, more than 55% of the greens he’s hit over the first three rounds, then I can see him getting inside the top 5 by days end tomorrow. If he hits 75% of his greens, he could do enough to post a number, but I don’t think he’ll do quite enough to win. I also like Doug Ghim quite a bit as well tomorrow.

Stud or Value Pick Outside the Top 10

Emiliano Grillo ($10,300)

With Will Zalatoris priced $200 below him, I’m sure he will get a massive amount of ownership going his way tomorrow, and certainly some of mine as well. Also, add in that Doc Redman leads the tournament, so it’s almost as if Grillo is priced out a bit, as it’s quite hard to stack all three of them. I mean, you could, but you would have to hope for some magic from golfers that haven’t had much of that lately.

So that brings us back to Grillo, whose there yet again in an event like this. Last time, at Corales, he jumped out early, getting himself into a tie for the lead on Sunday, before it all came crashing down midway through the back nine. Maybe it’ll go the other way this week.

Sneaky Pick Outside the Top 10

Andrew Putnam ($6,500)

I’ve talked about Andrew a lot this week and that I felt if there were ever an event to break out of his slump, it would be this where half the field is missing a fairway, to begin with. That plays right into his hands, and he was able to go low today. Another 67 should get him pretty close to the top 10 come tomorrow afternoon. It’ll be a welcomed sight in the Putnam household. Which just got bigger recently.

Lineup Fill-Ins

Will Zalatoris ($10,100)

Beau Hossler ($7,400)

Sepp Straka ($7,900)

Ryan Brehm ($6,900)
