A perfect day awaits these golfers tomorrow.

Round Two & Three Commentary

The second-round slate was for all intents and purposes a disaster. The scoring average was close to two over par, and half the amount of scores shot in the 60s from Thursday to Friday. Peter Malnati was able to get out and play early, and then maintain that form during the wind, and took a one-shot lead heading into the weekend. He struggled on Saturday, however, and ended up shooting a one-over-par 73 to put him two back of Lanto Griffin. His form has been simmering all fall, and he’ll get his best chance not only at a top 10, but a win, as well. Mark Hubbard is just one back of Griffin. Ryan Armor had a superb day tee to green, but for the third straight day lost strokes with his putter. He leads the BS vs. Putting list. Here is the rest of the list.

  • Book Weekley
  • Rafael Campos
  • Braden Bailey
  • Robert Garrigus
  • Sam Ryder

With the wind expected to die down tomorrow, here are the golfers that have been hot with the putter:

  • Beau Hossler
  • Lanto Griffin
  • Dominic Bozzelli
  • Rich Beem
  • Mackenzie Hughes

Final Round Showdown Picks

Top-10 Pick

Beau Hossler ($8,800)

Hossler has found comfort again here at the Houston Open, entering the final round just two back.  A reasonable price, putting well, with no wind in sight tomorrow, the stars could be aligning for Hossler for what must feel like a semi home game. He lives in Austin but has deep Texas roots. His best attribute tee to green has been his approaches, which is an even better sign heading into tomorrow.

PGA DFS Stud or Value Pick outside of Top 10

Denny McCarthy ($10,200)

For the second straight week, McCarthy is giving himself a chance on Sunday. He’s putting lights out almost every round and needs his irons to kick up a little. He lost strokes with his approaches in round three and still was able to shot 66. If he turns it around and actually gains strokes in round four, he could come from behind and win. Hopefully, gamers will look to Tringale over McCarthy, but for a true against the grain play, look for Sam Ryder to be very low owned in tomorrow’s slate.

Sneaky Pick Outside of Top 10

Brandon Wu ($7,200)

I had to put him here because I’m super impressed with how he’s held up in harsh conditions on his first-ever PGA Tour start. His ball-striking has been excellent, and his putting has been good, the only place he’s struggling this week is around the greens where he’s losing about a stroke per round. If he can stay hot with the putter and irons, he should be in line for a top 10, which would earn him another start once the tour returns from Asia.

Lineup Fill-Ins

XinJun Zhang ($8,200)

Karmer Hickock ($7,000)

Chad Campbell ($6,700)

Jason established his roots in the littlest state that could...Rhode Island. But after 29 years of bitter cold, and only being able to play golf 4 months a year, upended those roots and moved to Florida. Now two years later, Jason is a husband to Sarah and father of James as well as two Labradors (Choco and Bella) and he dedicates his time to serve as the lead of PGA content at Awesemo.com. In the time he is not diving into the PGA stats and covering this week's current tournament, you can find him researching and trading stocks, on the golf course, or somewhere hopefully lost in nature with his dogs guiding him along the way. Want to chat? Have a question about Golf/Stocks or anything else? Hop on twitter and give him a message @dfsgolfer23. You can also contact Jason by emailing support@awesemo.com.
