PGA DFS Showdown Picks: BMW Championship Round 4
Previous Round Recap
Sending golfers out in threesomes gave the fans what they wanted, a three-headed showdown Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Cantlay and Jon Rahm. Bryson would have the upper hand early as he would go birdie eagle on holes three, four, and five, It would make him five under thru five, but that would be the only headway he’d make on the round. Cantlay would stay patient as Bryson was going bananas and maintained form, good enough to tie the lead into Sunday. Patrick gained almost 12 strokes putting in the first two rounds, but it would be his ball-striking that would carry him today, gaining just shy of three strokes, adding in another .9 around the green. Rahm would be the one to falter today, not keeping pace, as his iron play was poor, losing almost a stroke and falling five back of the other two.
Notables
Sungjae Im gets into position for a last-second bid to East Lake, not far from where he lives. He came into the week ranked 25th on the season, in a very precarious spot, but his stellar play has him solidly in the field next week, needing to maintain form on Sunday. Rory McIlroy and Sam Burns would be the big movers of the day, only picking up two on Bryson, however, shooting a seven-under 65, and sit four back. Louis Oosthuizen turned in the round of the day with a 64. Dustin Johnson would also continue to pick up steam, now needing to follow it up, as he turned in a 65 on the heels of a great putting day.

The BMW Championship Round 4 PGA DFS Picks
The course doesn’t have much disparity and not a lot of bogey holes either. With that, it really comes down to a putting fest for the longer hitters, how hot a good putter can get with their irons.
- Sam Burns ($9,200) His fourth round at 65 or better in the last 11, Burns has been lighting up the scoreboard for a couple of weeks now. A couple of stumbles in the other rounds has prevented him free getting a win, but Burns is in a position to earn another big finish. He’s gained strokes in all four facets of his game, both in round one and in round three. His short game has been his est attribute, which for a golfer that hits it as far as he does, that’s a recipe for success on a scorable track like Caves Valley.
- Webb Simpson ($7,800) This will be my second attempt at playing Webb here this week, as I seem t miss his big days. But, after another solid day on the greens and with his approaches, it has me thinking that he’s trending in the right direction. He’s at a very reasonable price and within striking distance of the top 10, which should negate placement point worries.
- Harold Varner ($7,700) Sadly, Varner’s putter has been icy cold this week as he leads the field in strokes gained on the approach. Gaining solidly every day, over 1.5, Varner needs his putter to wake up for one round and let something magical happen. He’s probably a bit too far out to make the top 30 for next week’s event, but anything can happen. He’s striking it well enough to shoot something in the mid-60s but will need that putter to wake up.
Webb Simpson has the top rating of golfers priced under $8000 for the final round slate. Check out the full set of projections here.
Sneaky Pick for the BMW Championship Round 4 DraftKings Showdown
- Erik Van Rooyen ($6,700), Unlike Varner, Van Rooyen has had a good putting stroke this week, gaining almost 2 and a half strokes thru three rounds. He’s matched that up with a good approach game and solid off the tee work and is tied for 10th, in position for another big finish. He’s on a great stretch of golf, and it can continue if he gets into the top 5 tomorrow, but he will need that to make it happen. From fighting for his card and breaking tee boxes to looking at making East Lake and the Tour Championship, Van Rooyen is quite the Cinderella story in these playoffs.
