PGA DFS: The Fit & Form Guide for the Shriners Hospital for Children Open

During the 10-week hiatus, we worked on our content to deliver you the best possible info out there. One of those changes was combining the course history and recent form articles to showcase two of the most essential elements when building out PGA DFS lineups each week. Since we were on a 10-week hiatus, we’ll use form from this year and course history back to 2015. Let’s get into the Fit & Form guide to make your PGA DFS picks for your daily fantasy lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel for the Sanderson Farms Championship.

Form From Past 11 Weeks

It is a full field of 144 players this week, with players competing across all different tours in the world — some on the European Tour, some on the Korn Ferry Tour, and others competing in amateur events. I’ll give you the synopsis of all the best performers, regardless of which tour they play on.

There are only seven golfers in this field that haven’t competed at least once in the last three weeks, and only five haven’t competed in the last 11 weeks. There is plenty of data to analyze here.

Positive

Top 10s

The impressive run of golf from Will Zalatoris ended last week, missing the cut by a couple mainly due to his short game. He still is the only golfer with five top 25s in the last 11 weeks. Tony Finau has four. Webb Simpson and Scottie Scheffler are the only other PGA Tour pros that have three, while Justin Suh gets another start this week and has three, all coming on the LocalIq Series. Eighteen others have two top 10s in the last 11 weeks. A few of those names include Matthew Wolff, Bryson DeChambeau and Collin Morikawa.

Top 25s

Zalatoris has eight top 25s in addition to his five top 10s, while Harris English, who has six, is the only other golf with more than five top 25s. Five others have five top 25s in the last 11 weeks: Finau, Simpson, Scheffler, Suh and Hideki Matsuyama.

Cuts

Sixteen golfers have earned a paycheck in every start over the last 11 weeks. English, Emiliano Grillo, Brian Harman and Adam Schenk are the only ones with seven. Simpson, Scheffler, Suh, Wolff, Matsuyama, Cameron Davis and Lanto Griffin are all 6-for-6.

Negative

Top 10s

Only 78 golfers are searching for their first top 10 in the last 11 weeks — the lowest number we’ve had in some time. A few of those golfers have multiple top 25s, however, so not all is bad. Some of them are Harman, Patrick Rodgers, Beau Hossler, Sepp Straka, Talor Gooch, Xinjun Zhang, Cameron Smith, Abraham Ancer, Chesson Hadley, Dylan Frittelli and Byeong Hun An.

Top 25s

Forty-two golfers are searching for their first top 25 in the last 11 weeks. Some of the more surprising names here include Will Gordon, Keith Mitchell, Patton Kizzire, Adam Hadwin, Martin Laird, Tom Hoge and Wyndham Clark.

Cuts

Ten golfers in the field this week haven’t earned a paycheck in the last 11 weeks. Martin Trainer has had six starts, while Ted Potter, Bo Van Pelt and Michael Kim have five. Luke Donald, Greg Chalmers and Hunter Mahan have four.

Course History at TPC Summerlin

TPC Summerlin has been a mainstay on the PGA Tour for quite some time. In fact, we only have 15 golfers making their tournament debut.

Positive

Top 10s

Just two golfers in the field have three top 10s here in the last five years. Two of them are studs, though, and they are the two best players in this field, at least in my opinion: DeChambeau and Patrick Cantlay. Five others have at least two, including Pat Perez, William McGirt, Kevin Na, Hadley and Kizzire are the others. There’s only one player in the field that has one start over the last five years with that start ending in a top 10: Francesco Molinari. He came in fourth back in 2016.

Top 25s

Seven golfers have three top 25s here. Cantlay, DeChambeau, Hadley, Simpson and Finau are some of the more notable names. Joining them are Luke List and local man Scott Piercy. Only five other names have multiple top 25s here since 2015: Hossler, Harman, Ryan Palmer, Rickie Fowler and Si Woo Kim. Matsuyama, Wolff and Matthew NeSmith have all come in the top 25 in their only start here.

Cuts

James Hahn, Jason Kokrak and Nick Taylor have all had at least four starts here in the last five years and have made every cut. A few other names that have done the same include Simpson, Finau, Hadley and DeChambeau.

Negative

Top 10s

Ninety-four golfers have teed it up at least once here at TPC Summerlin with no top 10s. Twelve golfers have competed here all five times since 2015 and did not earn a top 10. Those are Kokrak, Taylor, Michael Kim, Laird, Rodgers, Kevin Streelman, Harold Varner, Scott Stallings, Troy Merritt, Peter Malnati, Nick Watney and Scott Brown.

Top 25s

Of those golfers we just listed, only three of them don’t have a top 25: Laird, Merritt and Brown. Mahan, Brendan Steele and Zac Blair have all competed four times without a top 10 or 25.

Fit & Form for PGA DFS

Now that we’ve covered both course history and recent form, let’s see if we can find any crossovers.

  • DeChambeau is the name that pops up the most on both sides of the coin. Simpson and Finau also show up on both sides.
  • Wolff and Matsuyama both seem like a good fit here but have only one start.
  • Some other names that aren’t as notable but have at least two top 25s in the last 11 weeks with two or more top 25s here at TPC Summerlin: Hossler, Hadley, Palmer, Harman, Smith, Si Woo Kim, List, Perez, Denny McCarthy and Aaron Wise.
