PGA The 3M Open – Weekend Live Betting

Two rounds in the books at the 3M Open and it is no surprise to have some players under par. Like most people your DFS lineups may be drawing dead, but that doesn’t mean the tournament is over. With the emergence of live betting you still are able to take positions within the tournament and create value if we see some guys primed to move up the leaderboard. In a way live betting is the equivalent of the DFS Showdown that has become so popular as you can use the in tournament stats to help lead you to some potential plays.

Leaders

Tony Finau +300 (FanDuel), Currently T3 -11

By default Finau is the class of the field that remains as almost every other big name player missed this cut. We all know about the struggles Finau has had closing tournaments and even last week it was another close yet far chance to rack up another PGA tour win. He should have no excuse here as he is primed to make a move and will be dealing with a much less talented field than he saw at Memorial.

Stats wise Finau is doing everything you want to see as he is crushing tee to green and is 1st in the entire field on the approach. The putter probably will need to heat up a bit to take this down, but he has to be considered the favorite as we make the turn to the weekend.

In the Hunt

Cameron Davis +2700 (FanDuel), Currently T6 -9

I just talked about how the leaderboard is filled with inexperienced players, so Cam Davis should feel right at home. The Aussie has flashed some signs of being able to contend on tour, and before the break finished 8th at the Honda against a much tougher field. It would be a big step up for him to find the winners circle here, but you could say that about almost all the leaders.

The positive for Cam Davis is that he is only three shots back despite not gaining much with the short game. He is second in the field tee to green and if the ball striking continues he will at least give himself a chance to make a bunch of birdies. With the leaderboard jammed packed you are getting almost 30-1 on a guy who is right in the hunt and in one of the last groups to tee off on Saturday.

Dylan Frittelli 50-1 (FanDuel), Currently T12 -7

Frittelli has shown he has nuclear upside, and it was only a few events ago where a Sunday 62 vaulted him into the lead out of nowhere for a brief moment. This is a guy who struggles with consistency, but that isn’t the issue here as we are drawing to a ceiling type performance which in his case could get him into the hunt come Sunday.

Long Shots

When looking for a long shot on the weekend the first priority has to be that the guy can go low. Clearly if you are finding a price around the triple digits it’s for the simple reason that the player is a ton of shots behind and sitting towards the bottom of the pack. In order for them to get in the mix they are going to need to take advantage of Saturday and start moving up the leaderboard so we are purely going for upside in this spot.

Matthias Schwab 210-1 (FanDuel), T24 -5

It’s a tough sell to ask a guy who has little experience on the PGA tour in general to surge up the leaderboard, but Schwab has some things that do stand out. Through the first 2 rounds he is averaging 3.4 strokes gained tee to green while losing over a full stroke with the putter. That is the reason we see him towards the middle of the pack and if he made a few more putts this number would be way shorter in price. This is also a situation that speaks to shopping odds as Schwab is sitting around 50/60-1 in many places, but FanDuel has hung a ridiculous number out there.

Now it is no given that he is going to flip the putter and it is hard to ask him to make up 8 shots on the leaders, but he does do what we are looking for. Schwab is a pure ball striker who will not mind wind or tougher conditions if we happen to get them and I wouldn’t be shocked to see him climb up the board as we make our way to Sunday.
