PGA DFS Picks: The Masters Optimizer Picks & Leverage Leaders for DraftKings & FanDuel Lineups | 4/6

This is the week we have all been waiting for. The first major of the season — The Masters — kicks off Thursday morning at the famous Augusta National Golf Club (par 72, 7,475 yards). The DFS industry has a full slate of high-end GPP plays available for this major. Below you will find some of my favorite PGA DFS picks for both DraftKings and FanDuel, using Awesemo’s Top Golfers Tool.

PGA DFS Picks: The Masters

The Masters in November had favorable conditions that helped push Dustin Johnson to win with a record-breaking score of -20. This is the lowest score a Masters’ champion ever posted, and the course is expected to have tougher conditions this time around. Following the early practice rounds, many players noted the famous par 72 was back to its fast and firm ways. With steady double-digit wind gusts in the forecast for all four days, there should be a far more difficult test of golf than there was in November. Augusta National requires world-class ball striking and mistake-free golf to climb the leaderboard. Each of past two winners led their fields in greens found, and four of the last five have ended the week with the fewest bogeys. This is a smaller field of only 88 players, advancing the top 50 and ties, in addition to any golfer within 10 shots of the leader after the first 36 holes.

Collin Morikawa

Awesemo PGA DFS Leverage Scores: DraftKings: 3.9%, FanDuel: 3.3%

Morikawa is expected to carry single-digit ownership on both DraftKings and FanDuel this week, according to Awesemo’s Top Golfers Tool. As the fourth-ranked golfer in the world, he is worth attention to this week. Morikawa has collected three top-10 finishes in only 11 starts this season, most recently with a win at the WGC-Workday Championship in February. Nobody in this field has gained more strokes on approach than Morikawa over his last 24 rounds, and he also ranks fourth in strokes gained on par 4’s over that span.

This will be his second crack at Augusta National after finishing 44th in November. This obviously isn’t the most compelling result, but golfers rarely ever shine in their Masters debut, and Morikawa should have a much better outcome in his second attempt. In his last 10 starts on bentgrass, Morikawa has two PGA wins to his name, including the victory at the 2020 PGA Championship.

Lee Westwood

Awesemo PGA DFS Leverage Scores: DraftKings: 4.4%, FanDuel: 2.4%

Westwood is in the midst of a terrific season, and his consistency at major events always gets overlooked. Before missing the cut at The Honda Classic, he was playing some of the best golf of his career, finishing runner-up at both the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship in back-to-back weeks. At The Masters, Westwood’s resume is extremely impressive, making 16 of 19 cuts with six top-10 finishes. Westwood finished second at Augusta National three years ago, and he has only failed to make the cut one time in his last 18 major appearances.

Via Awesemo’s Top Golfers Tool, Westwood has a 9.6% chance of finishing inside the top six at this year’s Masters. In addition, he is only projected for a 3.1% ownership on DraftKings. Combine these two factors, and Westwood possesses the highest DraftKings leverage score of the week.

Latest PGA DFS Content

Bubba Watson

Awesemo PGA DFS Leverage Scores: DraftKings: 2.5%, FanDuel: 3.8%

Watson was last in action at The WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, where he moved on to the Round of 16. It was especially impressive considering he beat out a pool that included Patrick Reed, Joaquin Niemann and Christiaan Bezuidenhout. Watson hasn’t played since then and now heads to Augusta National, where he is a two-time winner. His shot shape and overall game are a great match for this par 72; it’s a place where he has only missed one cut at in 12 starts. Comparing the entire field’s histories at Augusta, Watson ranks 15th in total strokes gained.

With it not being included in his game log on either DraftKings or FanDuel, most causal DFS players aren’t going to know about Watson’s solid showing at The Match Play. Awesemo’s Top Golfers Tool is predicting him to be under 5% owned on both sites. Watson’s experience at Augusta certainly makes him a threat for a high finish this week, and it’s worth noting his $7,800 salary on DraftKings is the cheapest he has ever been for a Masters.

Zach Johnson

Awesemo PGA DFS Leverage Scores: DraftKings: 3.1%, FanDuel: 3.0%

Johnson’s projected ownership levels are far too low for his safety this week. His missed the cut at The Valero Texas Open last week was his first of the season. Prior to this, Johnson carded an impressive eighth-place finish at The Honda Classic. In this start, he generated 7.8 strokes tee to green at PGA National — the most Johnson has produced this season.

As for Augusta National, the Johnson has found himself inside the cutline at three straight Masters and is 10-for-16 at this tournament for his career. Of course, do not forget about the victory in 2007. Furthermore, Johnson has played the weekend in 15 of his last 20 major starts. He is worth rostering on both sites, but he’s particularly appealing on DraftKings at $6,300. After all, the guy owns a green jacket and has only missed one cut this season.
