The Fit & Form Guide for the 3M Open | DraftKings + FanDuel PGA DFS

During the 10-week hiatus, we worked on our content to deliver you the best possible info out there. One of those changes was combining the course history and recent form articles to showcase two of the most essential elements when building out DFS lineups each week. Since we were on a 10-week hiatus, we’ll use form from this year and course history back to 2015. Let’s get into the PGA DFS Fit & Form guide to make your PGA DFS picks for your daily fantasy lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel for the 3M Open

Recent Form Since the Return of Play (Charles Schwab)

Only seven golfers of the over 150 in the field haven’t competed over the last six weeks, including Tommy Fleetwood, Angus Flanagan, Brendon de Jonge, Daniel Chopra, John Merrick and Rich Beem. Thirteen golfers in this week’s field will be teeing it for their seventh consecutive week, including defending champion Matthew Wolff. Others include Patrick Rodgers, Sepp Straka and Si Woo Kim. None of them have made the cut every week.

Positives

  • Six golfers in the field have two top 10s since professional golf has returned. Five of them, however, have at least one of their top 10s on the Korn Ferry Tour. Only Ryan Armour has multiple top 10s on the PGA Tour. Luke List has a win on the Korn Ferry Tour and the top 10 last week, Kristoffer Ventura has the top 10 at the Rocket Mortgage and a top five on the Korn Ferry, while Derek Ernst, Joseph Bramlett and Ben Martin have theirs on the KFT.
  • Lucas Glover has teed it up five times and came in the top 25 in four of them, ending the top-25 streak last week with a poor round on Sunday. Only List, Ventura, Doc Redman and Derek Ernst have more than two top 25s, each with three.
  • Just six golfers have earned a paycheck in each of their starts since the return of play (minimum of two starts). Among those not mentioned already are Richy Werenski, Scott Stallings, Chris Baker and Johnson Wagner.
  • A few other names that have came in the top 25 in at least 50% of their starts include Erik Van Rooyen, Sam Burns, Jhonattan Vegas, Dustin Johnson and Wes Roach.

Negatives

  • Kevin Tway is not enjoying his golf right now, missing all six cuts. He’s the only one to do so. Many others have missed all of their cuts, including Russel Knox, David Hearn, Alex Cejka, Aaron Baddeley, Beau Hossler, Cameron Davis, Robby Shelton, Robert Garrigus and plenty more. A total of 26 golfers haven’t made a paycheck in at least two starts over the last six weeks.
  • Ninety-two players will be searching for their first top 25 since the Charles Schwab, including Paul Casey, Wyndham Clark, Aaron Wise, Ryan Moore, Max Homa, Brian Gay, Andrew Putnam, Cameron Tringale, Emiliano Grillo, Scott Harrington and so many more. It is probably a decent bet that we will get at least two from the group I just mentioned this week.

Course History at TPC Twin Cities

With only one year of data, there won’t be much to cover here, so I’ve included the strokes gained data from last year at this course for golfers competing this week.

Positives

  • Matthew Wolff had it going throughout the whole bag last year but didn’t even gain a stroke putting, falling just short at .68 for the week. Carlos Ortiz had an eerily similar card but wasn’t as good with his approaches. Wyndham Clark seemed to like these greens, gaining almost 6.5 strokes on the way to his top five here last year. Lucas Glover was the real standout, gaining six strokes putting, one of his best performances of the year, en route to his top 10. Sam Burns was the only golfer in the top 10 to gain over four strokes off the tee last year.

Negatives

  • Dylan Frittelli seemed to love the course setup, gaining two strokes tee to green for the week. But he was horrendous with the putter, losing five strokes on the week. Kramer Hickok also falls into that category; in fact, he gained more tee to green than Frittelli did and lost more putting. Keith Mitchell, who finally made a cut last week, also seemed to like these greens here last year, gaining almost six strokes with the putter. He lost over eight from tee to green, though.

Fit & Form

Now that we’ve covered both course history and recent form, let’s see if we can find any crossovers, either negative or positive.

  • Sam Burns has been trending but hasn’t been able to shake off the Sunday rust two straight weeks. Maybe the third time is a charm.
  • Matthew Wolff has a couple of top 25s over the last six weeks and a win here last year. It’ll be interesting to see how he comes out playing his seventh week in a row.
  • Kristoffer Ventura can get hot with the putter and is a good ball striker, but he didn’t have the chance to play in this event last year. We’ll see if the fit is right.
