Winning Element: PGA DFS Player Pool Predictions & Ownersihps for the Zurich Classic l DraftKings & FanDuel l Cameron Champ

All of my PGA DFS picks content is geared toward providing information that will help you with all your DraftKings and FanDuel daily fantasy golf and wagering decisions in the best way possible. This is the last of my week-long written material for The Zurich Classic, and now it’s free.

I am primarily a GPP PGA DFS player and enjoy making up to 450 lineups. As such, these allocations are likely not exact, but they are targets for the mass-entry GPPs. If this is your first time reading it, let’s go over what you can find in it.

Key/Legend

The following sections define who will play and what recommended allocation you should play them at:

  • Core: We will start with these golfers in every lineup. At least two from my core will be in every one of the lineups.
  • PFs: We all have our guys, and these are mine. They will be in the player pool at a minimum of 20%. I have seven, and they are quite common: Tiger Woods, Patrick Cantlay, Jordan Spieth, Brian Harman, Collin Morikawa, Brian Stuard and, at times, Bryson DeChambeau.
  • Chalk Zone: These golfers are expected to be the most popular golfers of the week. They are supposed to be widely owned, and so, in a massive GPP, a winning lineup likely won’t have more than one of the guys listed in this area.
  • Alternates: On the PGA Tour, alternates are lucky to get in the field each week. However, it happens all the time due to injuries. In this section, we’ll identify a few lineup alternates that can help fill a lineup and still provide some decent upside.
  • Recommended Allocation: The percentage of time said golfer should be in your lineups, or at least what we are advocating.
  • Projected Ownership: The percentage that the field will have said golfer in their lineups.
  • Variance: The difference between Recommended Allocation and Projected Ownership. A favorable variance gives you leverage.

Last Week’s Recap

Unfortunately, Tommy Fleetwood missed the cut, and I would have had a good one going had he made it through. I also had plenty of Stewart Cink, but none in the right combo, and my $200 with him on it had J.T. Poston and Sebastian Munoz on it. I still cashed both my $555 lineups, so that made the week much more bearable. I lost about 20%.

Expected Weather

From Hilton Head, the Tour heads southwest across the panhandle into the bayou for the annual tour stop in New Orleans. Situated right on the gulf, wind typically plays a bit of a factor here. It looks to be mild the first couple of days, with wind in the mid-teens.

The Zurich Classic DraftKings & FanDuel PGA DFS Picks

This week, since it’s a completely different format, I am going to list the teams with top 20 ownership from highest to lowest salary. I will also give you the rest of my player pool in their respective categories, omitting the chalk-zone category this week. Forty-four of the 80 teams will be used this week.

Xander Schauffele/Patrick Cantlay ($11,700 DraftKings/$12,000 FanDuel)

The only hope right now is that people will not want to pay up for Cantlay given that his game has looked way out of sorts the last month. They will get clicked a lot this week, though they will be towards the back end of the ownership table.

Jon Rahm/Ryan Palmer ($11,500 DraftKings/$11,900 FanDuel)

The defending champions of the event are both in decent form. Rahm may still be adjusting to the dad life, so maybe that will slow him down a bit, but Palmer is playing some great golf of his own right now. The price is high, but the stability will be there this week.

Collin Morikawa/Matthew Wolff ($11,400 DraftKings/$11,500 FanDuel)

This is the ownership gamble of the week. It is going to be less than 5%, and if Wolff can keep the ball in this galaxy off the tee, then Morikawa will give him a chance at a birdie putt. This is a pure leverage play.

Cameron Smith/Marc Leishman ($11,100 DraftKings/$11,600 FanDuel).

Countrymates and teammates from the Presidents Cup, this Australian duo comes into this week playing some of their best golf all year. They both don’t necessarily excel at one skill and bring the whole bag of tricks to the table, which should help them in a format like alternate shot.

Bubba Watson/Scottie Scheffler ($10,900 DraftKings/$11,400 FanDuel)

This is one of the veteran/youngster lineups of the week. There are a few this week, and that is a trend that will continue as vets look to even out their game with some younger fire power. This duo in particular is a strong play this week.

Tony Finau/Cameron Champ ($10,700 DraftKings/$11,200 FanDuel)

A week ago this team would not have been appealing at all, especially at this price. But after both had a nice week Augusta, both may have renewed spirits. They have the ability to score, especially on the par 5’s, and regardless of who is hitting off the tee, they will have a chance to reach the greens in two.

Billy Horschel/Sam Burns ($10,500 DraftKings/$10,500 FanDuel)

This is another vet/youngster pairing, and it is a great blend of talent. At least one of these teams will bomb, but the make-up and recent form for both of them look good.

Viktor Hovland/Kris Ventura ($9,700 DraftKings/$9,400 FanDuel)

This will not be the first time that this Norwegian pair has teamed up. The camaraderie between the two is there, and the skill set blend works. Hovland makes a ton of birdies but is a bad putter, and Ventura is a good putter. Both are solid off the tee as well, so the only thing that might hold them back this week is their around-the-green game and Ventura’s iron game.

Branden Grace/Harold Varner III ($9,600 DraftKings/$10,300 FanDuel)

It is always a bit tougher to pull the trigger on a guy coming off of his career best finish, but Varner doesn’t have to do all the lifting himself this week. Grace has enjoyed a career resurgence this year and provides nice stability this week.

Sungjae Im/Byeong Hun An ($9,100 DraftKings/$9,200 FanDuel)

An is a lot closer to good form than the numbers suggest, even after last week where he missed on the number at -1. Sure, his putter has been horrific this year, maybe the worst ever, but his partner’s hasn’t been. Excluding the blowup on 15 at The Masters, Im has played decently over the last little bit and showed some good upside last week.

Graeme McDowell/Matt Wallace ($8,600 DraftKings/$8,600 FanDuel)

McDowell is one of those guys everyone would love to have as a teammate. He is always in a good mood, extremely knowledgeable and rather consistent. Add that to  the explosive Wallace, and that is a good recipe for success in the team format. The price is good as well, as Wallace has been playing nicely over the last three weeks.

Pat Perez/Jason Kokrak ($8,300 DraftKings/$8,500 FanDuel)

The chalkiest team of the week, Perez/Kokrak is worth being underweight on — somewhere around 15%. It may be smart to bet them to win the tournament to cover DraftKings entries. According to Awesemo’s model, they have a win percentage of 1.45% which puts them in line with golfers at a much higher price.

Doug Ghim/Justin Suh ($8,100 DraftKings/$8,900 FanDuel)

This is the preferred play of the week. Suh has shown flashes of form, but it hasn’t been superb recently. Ghim is having a breakthrough season, making a ton of birdies. Having competed quite a bit in college and both getting to the No. 1 amateur ranking in the world a familiar face could be all Suh needs to tap into that potential. A win for each of them would do worlds for their careers.

Will Gordon/Michael Thompson ($7,600 DraftKings/$8,600 FanDuel)

This may be the perfect match of aggressive and conservative play, as Thompson has shown very good consistency lately and Gordon is all over the place. The two should match up nicely this week.

Matthew NeSmith/Chase Seiffert ($7,500 DraftKings/$8,100 FanDuel)

Two golfers enjoying very quality seasons seem like a really good match. Their price is reasonable as well, so all systems go for the NeSmith/Seiffert Train. They have the highest projected point total for the week of anyone priced under $8,000 with 97 projected points.

Snedeker/Mitchell ($7,400 DraftKings/$8,400 FanDuel)

When teams first game out, this one stood out right away. Mitchell has something Snedeker doesn’t — length off the tee — and Snedeker has what Mitchell typically doesn’t — a good wedge game and great around-the-green game. This is one of the better-matched teams this week.
