Yahoo Cup PGA DFS Picks This Week: 3M Open

Looking for a way to learn PGA DFS without jumping in with both feet? We have a perfect solution for you. This year Yahoo and Yahoo Fantasy are offering a $10,000 freeroll called the PGA “Yahoo Cup.” This contest awards a winner for weekly events and one winner at the end of the season who has the most cumulative points. That winner will receive $1,000. Ultimately, winning the Yahoo Cup comes down to picking the right golfers. Today I will provide my top three value PGA DFS picks based on Yahoo salary, a couple of lineup fill-ins and two different fantasy golf lineup variations for making PGA picks this week at the 3M Open.

Right or wrong, it is important to keep track of how the picks performed the week prior. Here are the players and my corresponding lineup from the British Open:

  • Danny Willett (33rd)
  • Thomas Detry (Missed Cut)
  • Christiaan Bezuidenhout (46th)

Top Three Value Picks for the 3M Open

Robert MacIntyre ($34)

Last week MacIntyre made this column as part of conservative build since he presented high value and good upside. That panned out, and his good performance at the British Open got him a start this week. MacIntyre’s starts in PGA Tour events are quite rare, so he is still a bit of an unknown to most American golf fans, he has a chance to make big moves. Similar to his European Tour counterpart Garrick HiggoMacIntyre could change his career with a win. He is priced well down the board as well, with a salary of just $34. He is a great first golfer in a lineup, allowing gamers to be aggressive or go balanced.

Dylan Frittelli ($29)

An awful stretch of golf plagued Frittelli for the last couple of months, but something clicked at the John Deere Classic. Sure, he missed the cut on the number, but his play looked better than that. He took that form overseas as the last person in the field via withdraws and came in the top five of the event. That should give him plenty of momentum heading into this week as he looks for back-to-back top-10s on the PGA Tour for the first time in quite a while. His salary also has not caught up with the form, still priced under $30 this week.

Luke List ($28)

List is another golfer who had a really rough stretch for the latter part of May and June, but there was an obvious reason: He and his wife had their first child, but he was kept in the hospital for the standard protocol of premature birth and then developed a respiratory infection. List struggled for a few weeks after that, either not playing well or not playing at all, but his son was sent home and has now been healthy for about a month. Since then List’s play has improved drastically, including back-to-back top-fives in his last two events.

Aggressive Build

Going with all three of the top value plays leaves plenty of ways to go about building the other three golfers. One can either put in a stud at the top of the leaderboard and head down to the $25 range for the remaining two, or stay balanced and fill it out with someone like Sergio Garcia and filling in the remaining two spots in the mid-$30 range.

Conservative Build

Those who believe MacIntyre had his best start at the British Open can use Adam Schenkin his place. Schenk is $10 cheaper and makes it much easier to roster the best player in the world, Dustin Johnsonand one other stud to pair with him.
