Yahoo Cup PGA DFS Picks This Week: British Open

Looking for a way to learn PGA DFS without jumping in with both feet? We have a perfect solution for you. This year, Yahoo and Yahoo Fantasy are offering a $10,000 freeroll called the PGA “Yahoo Cup.” This contest awards a winner for weekly events and one winner at the end of the season who has the most cumulative points. That winner will receive $1,000. Ultimately, winning the Yahoo Cup comes down to picking the right golfers. Today I will provide my top three value PGA DFS picks based on Yahoo salary, a couple of lineup fill-ins, and two different fantasy golf lineup variations for making your PGA picks this week at the British Open.

New to PGA DFS? Awesemo is the only site with projections from the No. 1 daily fantasy player in the world. Right or wrong, it is important to keep track of how the picks performed the week prior. Here are the players and my corresponding lineup from the John Deere Classic:

  • Doug Ghim (18th)
  • Seamus Power (eighth)
  • Kevin Tway (18th)

Top Three Value Picks for The British Open

Danny Willett ($20)

There are a plethora of big names at the minimum salary this week, including Willett, who has two previous top-10s at this event. Willett, from England, grew up playing links golf and has shown the ability to compete and win in the world’s biggest events. He also will not be that heavily targeted, and he provides a nice pivot off of some of the higher-owned golfers in this salary range.

Thomas Detry ($20)

A late addition to the field because of his win last week at the Scottish Open, Detry should carry a tremendous amount of confidence with him this week. If the course plays easy and conditions are right — and that is a big if — that could yield another good finish for Detry coming off of the biggest win of his career.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout ($25)

The last time Bezuidenhout did not tee it up on a Saturday in a professional golf event was October of 2020. Since then he has made 20 straight cuts and finished inside the top 25 in eight of those 20 events. That includes four major championships. That type of consistency at this salary is a perfect combination.

For golfers priced under or at $25 Bezuidenhout ranks first with 31.1 projected points. Click here to view Awesemo’s full set of player projections.

PGA DFS Yahoo Cup Lineup Builds

Aggressive Build

Taking Willett and Detry and the minimum salary presents nice flexibility to roster any three golfers while remaining unique. Another way to do this is by leaving a little salary on the table.

Conservative Build

If neither Detry nor Willett are appealing, then Francesco Molinari is another great option. While he has not played all that well this year, he has still been able to pop up in the majors, most recently at the U.S. Open where he tied for 13th. Using him and paying up for Robert MacIntyre presents a balanced build rather than stars and scrubs.
