Looking for a way to learn PGA DFS without jumping in with both feet? We have a perfect solution for you. This year Yahoo and Yahoo Fantasy are offering a $10,000 freeroll called the PGA “Yahoo Cup.” This contest awards a winner for weekly events and one winner at the end of the season who has the most cumulative points. That winner will receive $1,000. Ultimately, winning the Yahoo Cup comes down to picking the right golfers. Today I will provide my top three value PGA DFS picks based on Yahoo salary, a couple of lineup fill-ins and two different fantasy golf lineup variations for making PGA picks this week at the Northern Trust.

Transparency Corner

Right or wrong, it is important to keep track of how we are doing. Last week I had Louis Oosthuizen as the top value, and he ended up withdrawing. Replacement Russell Henley came in the top 10, while Anirban Lahiri and Austin Eckroat both made the cut but did no damage in the tournament.

Top Three Value Picks for the Northern Trust

Rory McIlroy ($40)

McIlroy’s top-end form has not been seen all this year, save for one week at the Wells Fargo Championship. That week he had his best putting and around-the-green display he has had in some time, while his ball striking was not on. However, now his ball striking has come back into form, and his putter is lagging just a bit. But given that he is the 13th-highest-salary golfer on the board here, his putter is not too much of a concern.

Cameron Smith ($32)

There is a shortlist of golfers whose putting consistently inspires confidence. It will not happen every time, but more often than not Cameron Smith will gain strokes with his short game. What has been impressive lately is his off-tee game, which is typically his weakness. If that continues here for another couple of weeks, Smith could win based on how good his short game is.

Adam Scott ($27)

Scott needed a strong finish last week to make this event, and he comes in this week as the only golfer in the field to have multiple top-10s at the Northern Trust. He has also been playing much better as of late, not missing a cut since the PGA Championship, where he missed on the number. In fact, it is his only missed cut this calendar year, as Scott’s putting has drastically improved the consistency of his results.

PGA DFS Yahoo Cup Lineup Fill-Ins

  • Jordan Spieth ($44)
  • Paul Casey ($36)
  • Gary Woodland ($21)

PGA DFS Yahoo Cup Lineup Builds

Aggressive Build

PGA Yahoo CUp DFS Picks fantasy golf Gary Woodland Adam Scott Cameron Smith Northern Trust

Those not keen on McIlroy or Spieth can start with Smith, Scott and Gary Woodland to go a bunch of different ways with the other three golfers. Choose from at least two studs while filling the remaining spot with someone above $30 for an aggressive build that leads to a tad more risk taking and possibly more reward.

Conservative Build

PGA Yahoo CUp DFS Picks fantasy golf Gary Woodland Adam Scott Cameron Smith Northern Trust

Taking out Woodland, who has been a bit erratic of late, and adding in McIlroy will bring some stability to the lineup. Now, with three golfers and $101 dollars in salary left, another stud can make the lineup before it needs another low-salary golfer to fill things out.
