Yahoo Cup PGA DFS Picks: The Valero Texas Open

Looking for a way to learn PGA DFS without jumping in with both feet? We have a perfect solution for you. This year Yahoo and Yahoo Fantasy are offering a $10,000 freeroll called the “Yahoo Cup.” This contest awards a winner for weekly events and one winner at the end of the season who has the most cumulative points. That winner will receive $1,000.

Ultimately, winning the Yahoo Cup comes down to picking the right golfers. Today I will provide my top three value plays based on Yahoo salary, a couple of lineup fill-ins, and then I will finish it off with two different lineup variations of how to start building your lineups this week.

Top Three Values for The Valero Texas Open

Aaron Wise ($25)

It has been a bit rocky for Wise this year, having a couple of high finishes and then disappearing for a few weeks with missed cuts, but it looks like things are progressing in the right direction. Wise had a 13th in his last start and has good statistical notes for this course, and his salary on Yahoo is a relatively low $25 this week. While the missed cut in his only trip to San Antonio is not ideal, his form leading in this year is much better, and his overall game has improved since said missed cut.

Andrew Putnam ($22)

If this were an extremely strong field, no one would view Putnam as a good value at this salary. But, given that this field is rather weak, he presents the best value on the board. Putnam has been playing great, with two top-fives in his last three starts, and he has some decent history around these parts as well. Fire him up with Wise and the next golfer in this section, and you will be able to roster any other three golfers on the slate. With a projection of 62.6 points and a salary of just $22, Putnam is the eighth-best value play in Awesemo’s model this week.

Greyson Sigg ($21)

Sigg is not getting a ton of recognition yet, but he has lot of talent that is just starting to show itself on the PGA Tour. Finishing in the top 10 of the Korn Ferry Tour’s COVID-riddled season earned him playing privileges during alternate-field events like last week’s Corales Puntacana Championship. A top-10 there automatically qualified Sigg for this event, giving him another chance to earn those valuable FedEx Points.

PGA DFS Yahoo Cup Lineup Fill-Ins

  • Jordan Spieth ($38)
  • Corey Conners ($40)
  • Matt Kuchar ($33)

PGA DFS Yahoo Cup Lineup Builds

Aggressive Build

Using the three top values highlighted above, you can roster any three golfers in the player pool. Doing that and hoping that the bottom three hit is the aggressive way to go about this week’s lineup construction.

Conservative Build

Taking out Sigg — in case the unknown player is a turn-off — and putting Jordan Spieth in his place still provides plenty of flexibility to get any two golfers in the lineup. After that, the worst option for the last spot would be someone like Keegan Bradley, which is still a solid choice.
