Alexander Mattison - Week 14 Outlook for Fantasy Football

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison proved once again in Week 13 that he is the most reliable backup running back in fantasy football. Filling in for an injured Dalvin Cook, Mattison put up 124 total yards and a rushing touchdown in the loss to the Detroit Lions. With a short week and the Pittsburgh Steelers on the schedule for Thursday night football, Mattison will likely be called on to replace Cook once more. He will face a Steeler defense that gives up the 11th most fantasy points to opposing running backs on the season, setting up Mattison for another big performance. Mattison is averaging 23.6 PPR points per game as the starting running back this year and fantasy managers can expect another RB1 performance Thursday night.

Alexander Mattison Totals 124 Yards And A Touchdown

Fantasy managers that held onto Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison after the return of Dalvin Cook were rewarded once again with a workhorse-like performance in Week 13. Although he rarely sees the field when Cook is healthy, there is no significant drop-off when Mattison is called upon to carry the load. Mattison touched the ball 25 times in the game for a total of 124 yards and a rushing touchdown in the 29-27 loss to the Detroit Lions. Mattison is averaging 23.6 PPR points as the starting running back, a number that trails only Derrick Henry and Jonathan Taylor on a per-game basis. As long as Cook is out, Mattison will continue to be an elite running back option.

Alexander Mattison To Be Featured Versus Detroit

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison will get a "heavy workload" on Sunday against Detroit, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The 23-year-old is widely considered one of the best backups throughout the league, and he will have some large shoes to fill with Dalvin Cook (shoulder) expected to miss a few weeks because of a torn labrum. Mattison has 82 touches for 346 yards and five total touchdowns through four career starts, so he should be more than fine to fill the void versus one of the worst teams in the league. Nonetheless, and it goes without saying, fantasy managers should consider him a must-start in all fantasy formats. He will also see plenty of interest throughout the DFS community in Week 13. However, there is a good reason for that.

Alexander Mattison - Week 13 Outlook for Fantasy Football

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison resumes his role as the top handcuff in fantasy football in Week 13 against the Detroit Lions. With starter Dalvin Cook likely out for the next two weeks, Mattison steps into a smash spot against a defense that gives up the fifth most points to opposing running backs. In the two games Mattison has started in 2021, he has averaged 25.5 carries, 6.5 catches and 162 total yards per game. As long as Cook is sidelined, Mattison will be a locked-in RB1 given the volume and usage that he will have.

Alexander Mattison A Non-Factor In Loss To Dallas

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison continues to be an afterthought with a healthy Dalvin Cook in the lineup. Despite averaging 112.5 rushing yards, 6.5 receptions and 49.5 receiving yards in the two games without Cook, the Vikings coaching staff refuses to find ways to get the ball into Mattison's capable hands when Cook is active. He remains the top handcuff in the game with RB1 potential anytime Cook is forced to miss time.

Dalvin Cook, Alexander Mattison Both Upgraded Thursday

Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook (ankle) returned to a full practice on Thursday after being limited on Wednesday. Cook missed the Week 5 win over the Detroit Lions, but it looks like he'll be back this Sunday against the Carolina Panthers. Mattison, meanwhile, returned to a limited practice after sitting out on Wednesday. Cook has missed two of the last three games after tweaking his right ankle in Week 2, and he wasn't productive in his one game since the injury. A full practice for Cook should mean that he'll be closer to 100 percent and ready for a full workload. The 26-year-old should be returned to all starting lineups, but temper expectations against a Panthers defense that has allowed the second-fewest fantasy points per game to RBs so far in 2021. Mattison could see more work again behind Cook, but he's only playable most weeks if Cook is sitting.

Oct 13th · 11:13 PM
Alexander Mattison Absent Wednesday

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison (shoulder) did not practice on Wednesday. Dalvin Cook (ankle), who missed the Week 5 win over the Detroit Lions, returned to practice, so he has a chance to play again in Week 6 against the Carolina Panthers. Mattison has been money for fantasy managers in the two games that Cook has missed in the early going. Most recently last Sunday, the 23-year-old had 25 rushing attempts for 113 yards while catching all seven of his targets for 40 yards and a touchdown. Mattison has had at least 25 carries in the two games without Cook, but he's had 14 combined totes in the three games with Cook active. So basically if Cook returns to the mix, Mattison will be extremely hard to trust.

Alexander Mattison Fills In Admirably On Sunday

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison filled in admirably for the injured Dalvin Cook (ankle) during Sunday's narrow win over the Lions. The 23-year-old was all over the place in Week 5, compiling 113 yards off 25 carries. He also caught seven passes for 40 yards, with one of those receptions resulting in a trip to the end zone. Mattison has turned up the volume throughout his short tenure as the lead back in Minnesota. Still, it's certainly possible that Cook can make his way back for the Week 6 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. However, if he doesn't, Mattison should be starting in every fantasy format imaginable.

Oct 9th · 01:02 AM
Alexander Mattison - Week 5 Outlook for Fantasy Football

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison's fantasy outlook remains contingent on the status of Dalvin Cook (ankle) heading into Week 5. Cook remains a game-time call against the Lions. However, if he doesn't play, Mattison will automatically be an attractive fantasy target in nearly every format, including DFS contests. While filling in the Cook in Week 3 against the Seahawks, Mattison had 26 carries for 112 yards. He didn't score a touchdown in that one, but it was still a solid outing, nonetheless. The 23-year-old also got some touches in Week 4 during the loss to the Browns. As a result, even if Mattison has to share time in the backfield, he should remain on the fantasy radar, but mainly as a risky flex option in deeper leagues. Nevertheless, managers should monitor things heading toward Sunday's matchup against Detroit and take things from there. If Cook is out, Mattison's stock will skyrocket.

Alexander Mattison Racks Up 171 Total Yards In Win

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison carried the ball 26 times for 112 yards and added 59 receiving yards in the Vikings 30-17 win over the Seahawks. Filling in for the injured Dalvin Cook, Mattison picked up the slack and then some in the Vikings run offense. Cook's status should be monitored throughout next week but Mattison represents one of the best RB handcuff's in the NFL right now. He needs to be rostered in all formats heading into Week 4.

Sep 26th · 02:25 PM
Alexander Mattison Likely To Start Sunday

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison is trending towards starting Sunday's game against the Seahawks. Starter Dalvin Cook (ankle) was unable to practice all week, and the team is not particularly confident about his status as of Sunday morning. That would make Mattison, who has made two starts in his career, the lead back against a Seattle defense that has yielded the most fantasy points per game to running backs through two weeks. The 23-year-old would likely have some flex appeal even if Cook is active- but if the star runner can't go, Mattison immediately enters the high-end RB2/low-end RB1 conversation for a potentially high-scoring affair against the Seahawks.

Alexander Mattison Practices In Full

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison (ribs) took part in a full practice on Wednesday ahead of Week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals. Mattison was injured in the team's second preseason game and hadn't done much since then, so this is a good sign of his availability this weekend. He'll once again enter the year as the backup to workhorse running back Dalvin Cook, who was probably the second overall pick after Christian McCaffrey in most fantasy leagues. Despite being second fiddle, Mattison has averaged 8.4 touches and 42.4 scrimmage yards per game the last two years, and he represents an excellent handcuff to one of the best running backs in the league.

Alexander Mattison Misses Practice Monday

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison (undisclosed) did not practice on Monday with an apparent injury. The 23-year-old sustained the injury during Saturday's preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts. He caught two passes for 16 yards before exiting. The severity of his injury is unknown at this time, and he's considered day-to-day. Mattison is the Vikings' top backup running back for fantasy managers of Dalvin Cook to roster. Stay tuned for further updates.

Alexander Mattison Totals 16 Receiving Yards

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison caught two passes for 16 yards in the team's second preseason game against the Colts. The Vikings played some of their first-teamer's in this game and Mattison was able to play some snaps with star teammate Dalvin Cook being preserved for the regular season. The entire Vikings offense struggled throughout the game but Mattison was able to get some plays in. With Cook projected to be one of the first players taken off of most fantasy draft boards, Mattison will be a crucial handcuff selection in the later rounds of drafts.

Jul 23rd · 09:28 PM
Alexander Mattison In Line To Be Top Handcuff

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison will head into training camp as one of the top fantasy handcuff options in the NFL. The 23-year-old posted 434 rushing yards last season, averaging 4.5 yards per carry with two touchdowns. He will backup one of the best running backs in the game in Dalvin Cook yet Cook's health is always something to monitor from a fantasy perspective. When given a full run, Mattison can easily handle lead back duties when given the chance, as evidenced by his 20-carry, 112-yard performance in Week 5 against the Seahawks last season. Any fantasy team that selects Cook will need to consider adding Mattison as insurance in the final rounds of upcoming drafts.

Alexander Mattison Closes Out Season With Two-TD Performance

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison served as the team's lead back during Sunday's win over the Lions with Dalvin Cook (personal) not available and he compiled the first multi-touchdown outing of his career. Mattison carried the ball 21 times for 95 yards, finding the end zone once on the ground while also crossing the goal line as a receiver, where he snagged three catches for 50 yards. With Cook set to serve as Minnesota's lead back for the foreseeable future, Mattison's fantasy outlook entering 2021 won't be high; but he has shown a propensity for compiling numbers when given the opportunity, making him an upside DFS or streamer option should Cook not be in the fold for a given contest next year.

Jan 3rd · 04:05 PM
Alexander Mattison Should See Plenty Of Week 17 Work

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison is expected to serve as the lead back for the Vikings on Sunday against the Lions with Dalvin Cook (personal) out. Mattison doesn't have the upside of Cook, but he should be set to see plenty of touches, especially near the goal-line. The Lions run defense has plenty of holes in it, making Mattison a solid option as an RB2 this week. In Week 5, he received 23 touches and managed 136 yards from scrimmage.

Dec 17th · 05:31 AM
Kyle Rudolph, Alexander Mattison Miss Practice

Minnesota Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph (foot) and running back Alexander Mattison (appendix) both missed practice on Wednesday. Rudolph and Mattison missed last week's game, and Mattison has missed the last two games after having his appendix removed. Neither player should be on the fantasy radar for a Week 15 meeting with the Bears. Chicago's defense has allowed the fourth-most fantasy points per game to tight ends this season, making Irv Smith Jr. a touchdown-dependent TE2 streamer in deeper leagues if Rudolph misses another contest. Smith caught four passes for 63 yards and a touchdown in Week 14. Ameer Abdullah will continue serving as Dalvin Cook's backup if Mattison misses another game, but he doesn't have any standalone value behind the workhorse back.

Dec 12th · 03:15 AM
Alexander Mattison Out Again In Week 14

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison (illness) has been ruled out for Week 14 against the Buccaneers. Mattison also missed Week 13 after undergoing an appendectomy. With the 22-year-old out last week, Dalvin Cook had a season-high 38 touches and should be a workhorse again this weekend against Tampa Bay. Ameer Abdullah and Michael Boone are the other two running backs on the roster, but they won't have any standalone value with Cook in front of them. The Bucs have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points per game to running backs this year, but Cook is a must-start fantasy asset as the No. 2 rusher in the NFL, just behind Derrick Henry.

Dec 5th · 11:09 PM
Alexander Mattison Will Miss Week 13 After Appendectomy

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison (illness) has been downgraded to out for Week 13 against the Jaguars. Mattison had appendicitis and underwent successful surgery, according to a source. The 22-year-old could also be forced to miss Week 14 against the Buccaneers. With Mattison sidelined list Sunday, expect Ameer Abdullah to serve as Dalvin Cook's primary backup. The Vikings also have Michael Boone on the active roster. Cook, who is second in the NFL in rushing yards behind the Titans' Derrick Henry, will be facing a Jacksonville defense that has given up 10 rushing touchdowns and the sixth-most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs. He tweaked his ankle in the Week 12 win over the Panthers but stayed in the game and is fine for this weekend. He's a must-start elite RB1 for fantasy managers.

Oct 19th · 12:33 AM
Alexander Mattison Fails To Make Impact

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison carried the ball 10 times for only 26 yards in the Vikings 34-16 loss to the Falcons in Week 6. Mattison was charged with stepping in for injured star running back Dalvin Cook but did little with his chances. It doesn't help when quarterback Kirk Cousins tosses three first-half interceptions as the Vikings fell behind 23-0 by the halftime. Mattison's fantasy value will be tied to the health of Dalvin Cook heading into Week 7.

Oct 13th · 11:29 PM
Alexander Mattison In Line For Substantial Workload Sunday

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison is slated to take over starting running back duties for Sundays game versus Atlanta due to the adductor injury to Dalvin Cook(groin). DFS sites have already adjusted Mattisons price tag, so unfortunately fantasy managers will have to pony up a pretty penny, but season-long managers can attempt to snag Mattison off of the waiver wire and start him if Cooks sits. With Cooks injury not sounding like a long-term ailment, those managers with waiver wire pool funds shouldnt overspend on Mattison, who will likely return to a reserve role upon Cooks return. But as for Sunday, Mattison will face a Falcons Defense that has been shredded to the tune of 32.2 points per game by opposing running backs, tied for the second-highest mark in the league.

Jan 2nd · 07:18 PM
Dalvin Cook, Alexander Mattison Practicing In Full

Minnesota Vikings running backs Dalvin Cook (shoulder) and Alexander Mattison (ankle) practiced in full for the second straight day this week on Thursday. Both players are on track to suit up for the wild-card game against the Saints on Sunday. Cook has missed a couple of games now with his injury, but he should jump right back into workhorse duties against New Orleans. The Saints allowed the fourth fewest fantasy points per game (14.5) to the running back position this year, so Cook will certainly have his hands full in the Superdome. He's DraftKing's second most expensive running back for wild-card weekend, priced at $7,800 behind Derrick Henry.

Dec 29th · 04:01 PM
Alexander Mattison Inactive, Kirk Cousins Active

Minnesota Vikings rookie running back Alexander Mattison (ankle) is inactive for Week 17 against the Bears. Quarterback Kirk Cousins will be active for the start of the game. With both Dalvin Cook (shoulder) and Mattison out, it should be Mike Boone and Ameer Abdullah sharing the backfield duties against Chicago in this meaningless game. Abdullah actually saw more work than Boone last week, so this is a shaky situation for fantasy owners still playing for a title. Cousins is active, but backup Sean Mannion is still expected to get the start with the Vikings resting up for the postseason. Trusting anyone in Minnesota's offense this Sunday is a fool's errand.

Dec 27th · 05:47 PM
Alexander Mattison Questionable Against Bears

Minnesota Vikings rookie running back Alexander Mattison (ankle) is questionable to play in Week 17 against the Bears. Dalvin Cook (shoulder) has already been ruled out with the Vikings already locked into the No. 6 seed for the playoffs. If Mattison returns, he'd likely split the workload with both Mike Boone and Ameer Abdullah, making him pretty unattractive in season-long leagues and DFS. That's especially true since Sean Mannion is expected to be under center while the team rests starter Kirk Cousins for a playoff run. Don't expect wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen to play much either, if at all. Minnesota's offense is one to fade as a whole this weekend.

Are NFL Trade Rumor Covered in the Player News?
Yes! As you can see from this Julio Jones write up from his player page, we updated his news section as soon as the news broke.
“The Atlanta Falcons are not expected to trade quarterback Matt Ryan this offseason, according to sources. “The Falcons have not had any trade conversations about Ryan or their star wide receiver Julio Jones. And every expectation is both players are going to be on the roster in 2021,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said. New head coach Arthur Smith plans to run a similar offense to the one Kyle Shanahan used when Ryan won MVP in 2016. Atlanta would be on the hook for more than $44 million in dead money in 2021 if they traded Ryan before June 1. Atlanta may decide to take Ryan’s heir-apparent at No. 4 overall in the draft, but the 35-year-old signal-caller is expected to stay put for at least another season. Ryan and Jones got it going to end the regular season and could be in line for bounce-back campaigns under Smith in 2021. Consider Ryan a midrange QB1 heading into next season.”
