Jameis Winston Unlikely To Be Back In 2022?

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston (knee) suffered a torn ACL in the Week 8 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and will miss the rest of the season. Winston was always considered a one-year experiment and there are no guarantees after this season. The Athletic's Larry Holder doubts that Winston did enough prior to his season-ending injury to convince head coach Sean Payton that he can be the starter in New Orleans for the long term. Holder thinks the Saints will explore every avenue for a new QB in the offseason, potentially even considering trading for Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson. With Winston out the rest of the way, Taysom Hill is a strong candidate to take over under center once he clears the league's concussion protocols after missing the last two games.

Jameis Winston Sustains Season-Ending Knee Injury Sunday

The New Orleans Saints' worst fears about quarterback Jameis Winston (knee) became a reality Monday, as per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Winston has sustained a torn ACL, ending his season abruptly. Winston is also believed to have sustained damage to his MCL, further highlighting the damage that he took before leaving Sunday's win over Tampa Bay. In place of Winston, Trevor Siemian put together a strong effort, throwing for 159 yards and a touchdown. New Orleans also has Taysom Hill in the QB room, who after starting four games as a signal caller in 2020, could throw his name in the mix to start during the second half of the season as well.

Jameis Winston Dealing With ACL Injury

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston (knee) suffered damage to his ACL in the Week 8 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he might also be dealing with damage to his MCL. The Saints believe that his injury is "significant," and he could be looking at a season-ending injury, depending on what test results reveal on Monday. Winston was brought down on an illegal horse-collar tackle in the first half and never returned to the game. Trevor Siemian filled in on Sunday, but Taysom Hill (concussion), whenever he's able to return from his head injury, should serve as the starting QB if Winston misses extended time or the rest of the season. New Orleans' offense could become even more run-centric with Hill under center in the future.

Jameis Winston's Knee Injury Could Be Season-Ending

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton described quarterback Jameis Winston's (knee) injury as "significant," and it could be a season-ending situation. It didn't look good when a defender pulled him down on an illegal horse-collar tackle that caused his knee to buckle, and he was eventually carted into the locker room and never returned in the second half. Backup Trevor Siemian led the team to a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but Taysom Hill (concussion) figures to take over under center whenever he gets past his head injury if Winston is forced to miss extended time. Hill has missed the last two games while in the concussion protocol. The Saints should rely even more on running back Alvin Kamara and the ground game moving forward.

Jameis Winston Ruled Out After Suffering Knee Injury

Updating a previous report, New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston (knee) was ruled out for the rest of the Week 8 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Winston was injured during a horse-collar tackle in the first half when his knee buckled. It didn't look pretty, and Winston was carted to the locker room after being evaluated in the blue medical tent. Backup Trevor Siemian has taken over under center. If Winston is forced to miss additional time, all of the Saints offensive skill players would need to be downgraded in fantasy, although they could rely even more on running back Alvin Kamara and the ground game. Winston went 6-for-10 for 56 yards and a touchdown before getting injured, adding 40 rushing yards on four carries. QB Taysom Hill (concussion) missed his second straight game, but he could be an option to start next week if Winston is unable to make it back.

Jameis Winston Carted To The Locker Room

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston (knee) left the game and was soon carted to the locker room after his leg buckled while being tackled. Although Winston has been disappointing this season, he's still a much more intriguing option than backup Trevor Siemian. If the former Buccaneer misses time, all of his weapons receive a major downgrade. Furthermore, if the injury is serious, he and all of his weapons besides Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas won't be worth much in the majority of fantasy formats. Winston is officially questionable to return in the second half of the game.

Jameis Winston - Week 8 Outlook for Fantasy Football

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston could be a streaming candidate in Week 8 against the Buccaneers. Winston enters the contest having thrown for 1,114 yards, 13 touchdowns, and three interceptions, though he's been far less willing to throw downfield this year, as evidenced by his 7.4 yards per attempt. The 27-year-old signal-caller may have to throw more often against a Buccaneers offense averaging 33.3 points per game while allowing opposing quarterbacks to throw the second-most passing attempts in the league. Winston could have some sneaky upside if the game turns into a high-scoring affair.

Oct 26th · 03:24 AM
Jameis Winston Throws For 222 Yards

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston finished 19-for-35 for 222 yards and one touchdown along with eight rushes for 40 yards in Monday's win over the Seahawks. Winston hasn't been as generous with his picks (13 touchdowns to three picks on the season) but he also hasn't been explosive. The QB's highest yardage total this season has been 279. Based on his stats this season and his role on a low-powered offense, Winston doesn't merit much fantasy value going forward.

Oct 21st · 01:51 AM
Jameis Winston - Week 7 Outlook for Fantasy Football

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston is a QB2, at best, in Week 7 on Monday night against the Seattle Seahawks. The QB is coming off a decent game in Week 5 in which he threw for 279 yards and four scores. Nevertheless, the 27-year-old has been streaky this season, which reflects his entire NFL career. The problem with Winston as a fantasy player is you don't know which version you will get any given week. The Seahawks are average against fantasy quarterbacks, so Winston is certainly in the streaming tier if you need options with bye weeks hitting hard this week. Just be aware of the risk/reward that comes with playing a QB that can be streaky.

Jameis Winston Tosses Four Touchdowns

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston went 15-for-30 for 279 yards, four touchdowns, and one pick in Sunday's win over Washington. Winston had his best showing of the season in Week 5 and posted his season-high in yards. The QB hasn't always been consistent though, which is something dating back to his Tampa days. Winston's tendency to be hot and cold in his weekly production makes him a risky fantasy option because you don't know which version you could get each week. While this performance was encouraging, it's best to avoid starting Winston unless using him as a streaming option in a favorable matchup.

Oct 9th · 12:35 AM
Jameis Winston - Week 5 Outlook for Fantasy Football

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston is not a strong starting option against Washington in Week 5. The QB has managed less than 200 yards in three of four games and hasn't been as explosive overall. While it's encouraging the former Buccaneer has cut down on the turnovers with eight touchdowns to two picks, it's worth noting five of those touchdowns came in Week 1. Even against a Washington team that is a favorable matchup for fantasy QBs, Winston should not be trusted given his pedestrian weekly numbers.

Oct 3rd · 10:03 PM
Jameis Winston Throws One Touchdown In Overtime Loss

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston completed 17 of 23 passing attempts for 226 yards and one touchdown in a 27-21 overtime loss to the Giants. Winston was both accurate and aggressive, posting his highest yards per attempt and second-highest completion percentage, but the numbers were a bit muted given New Orleans' balanced attack. The Saints have yet to turn Winston loose, as his 23 passing attempts from Sunday are the most he's thrown through four weeks. However, Winston's arm could be needed more than usual in Week 5 against a Washington Football Team that has averaged 28.3 points per game since Taylor Heinicke took over the quarterback duties.

Sep 29th · 05:55 PM
Jameis Winston Tough To Trust In Week 4

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston will take on the Giants in Week 4. Winston has thrown for 387 yards with seven touchdowns, two interceptions, and a rushing score through three weeks of play, though five of those passing scores came in a very efficient Week 1 effort. Also, it's become clear that head coach Sean Payton wants to have a more run-heavy approach in the post-Drew Brees era, as his gunslinging quarterback ranks just 29th in the league in passing attempts. That limits Winston's fantasy upside unless the Saints have to play from behind or he rediscovers his Week 1 efficiency. The 0-3 Giants haven't been as stout as last year's unit against the pass, but the Saints figure to lean on the ground game in Week 4. Winston is an unappealing Week 4 option, even in 2QB formats.

Sep 26th · 10:00 PM
Jameis Winston Goes For 128 Yards

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston finished Sunday's win over New England by going 13-for-21 for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Winston hasn't thrown for more than 148 yards in any game this season and has been inconsistent overall thus far. Because the QB is only putting up modest numbers each week, it will be hard to trust him as a fantasy starter going forward when there are other QBs who are more capable of stuffing the stat sheet. As a result, Winston should remain on waivers.

Sep 24th · 03:29 PM
Jameis Winston Not A Worthy Starter Against Patriots

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston is not a viable starter against the Patriots in Week 3. Winston has started off the season in no other matter than he's always shown, which is inconsistent. After throwing fives scores in the season opener, the QB followed it up in Week 2 with no touchdowns and two picks. This type of inconsistency plagued the 27-year-old's tenure in Tampa. New England is a tough matchup for fantasy QBs, so it's hard to trust Winston this week as it's difficult to tell which version of him will show up.

Sep 19th · 09:46 PM
Jameis Winston Intercepted Twice In Ugly Loss

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston completed 11 of 22 passes for 111 yards, a rushing score, and two interceptions in Sunday's 26-7 loss to Carolina. Winston struggled all day against the Panthers' underrated defense, which chased him for four sacks and the two picks. The gunslinger didn't have much time to look downfield, as he was pressured on 18 of his 28 dropbacks, though he didn't do himself any favors. Winston and the Saints are better than what they showed in Week 2- but it won't get any easier in Week 3 against Bill Belichick and the Patriots defense.

Sep 16th · 06:46 PM
Jameis Winston A Low-End QB1 Against Panthers

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston draws a favorable matchup in Week 2 against the Panthers as he attempts to follow up his five-touchdown performance from Week 1. Winston diced up the Packers secondary, a unit that allowed the fifth-fewest fantasy points per game to signal-callers, for five scores, adding 37 yards with his legs, and will get to face a Carolina defense that surrendered the eighth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks in 2020. It's tough to completely trust the former number-one overall pick for fantasy purposes given his turnover-filled past, though there's a chance that head coach Sean Payton has already helped Winston find a better version of himself. Fantasy managers can turn to Winston for low-end QB1 production in Week 2.

Sep 13th · 01:45 AM
Jameis Winston Tosses Five Touchdowns

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston went 14-for-20 for 148 yards and five touchdowns in Sunday's dominating win over the Packers. Winston looked sharp in his first regular-season action since 2019. The QB who is normally known for picks went flawless in that department and that was an encouraging start to his Saints debut. As long as Winston can make the most of the team's limited weapons, he should certainly remain in the fantasy conversation, though not as a weekly starter until we see a bigger sample size in which he performs well. Up next is a matchup against the division rival Panthers.

Sep 9th · 12:17 AM
Jameis Winston Draws Tough Matchup In Week 1

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston draws a tough matchup from the get-go against the Packers in Week 1 in Jacksonville. Winston won the starting QB job over Taysom Hill this preseason and will now aim to prove he's the right fit for the Saints for the coming years. The QB last started with the Bucs in 2019 where he infamously threw for 30 touchdowns and 30 picks. This time around, he won't have too many reliable weapons as Michael Thomas is out for the beginning of the season after ankle surgery in June. The Packers allowed the fourth-fewest points to QBs last season, so Winston is better left on the bench for this week.

Aug 27th · 01:15 PM
Jameis Winston Named Saints Starting QB

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston has been named the team's starting QB for the regular-season opener against the Green Bay Packers. He's impressed this preseason, completing 16-for-22 passes for 219 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception through two games, including a 43-yard touchdown bomb to wide receiver Marquez Callaway. The former No.1 overall pick beat out Taysom Hill for the Saints starting quarterback job in training camp. Hill will be used as a gadget player and could steal red zone opportunities away from Winston. The 27-year-old is a borderline QB2, but the Saints are not deep at wide receiver, and he will be without his top wideout Michael Thomas (ankle) for the first couple of months of the season. Winston is currently going as QB30 in FFPC leagues, but expect that number to rise with the latest news.

Aug 24th · 11:41 PM
Jameis Winston The Favorite To Start For Saints

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston has emerged as the favorite to win the starting QB job after another strong showing in the preseason win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night. Winston had a couple highlight-reel throws on Monday night and can complete the type of throws that now-retired QB Drew Brees was unable to make in the last couple of seasons. Head coach Sean Payton has declined to officially name Winston as the starter, but it seems that it's headed that way. With Winston as the starter, New Orleans can keep Taysom Hill in his typical gadget role in the offense as well. Winston completed nine of his 10 passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns on Monday night, including a 43-yard touchdown bomb to Marquez Callaway. The 27-year-old has a big arm, but the Saints don't have many reliable pass-catchers outside of Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara, and Winston has been extremely turnover-prone in his career. In the right matchups, he'll be an attractive streamer, but Winston should be drafted as a midrange QB2, at best, if he wins the job.

Aug 24th · 03:27 AM
Jameis Winston Throws Two Touchdowns

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston finished Monday's win over the Jaguars by going 9 of 10 for 123 yards and two touchdowns. This was a much better showing for the former Buccaneer, who last week only managed 96 yards, one touchdown, and one pick. Nevertheless, the guy who he is competing with for the starting job, Taysom Hill, also had a better showing on Monday compared to last week. Winston will need to perform well in Saturday's preseason finale against the Cardinals to have an edge over Hill for the starting job.

Aug 21st · 02:45 AM
Jameis Winston To Start Against Jaguars

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston will get the start during Monday's preseason matchup against the Jaguars. Winston and fellow signal-caller, Taysom Hill, continue to battle for the coveted No. 1 spot on the depth chart. However, it appears neither man has done enough to make head coach Sean Payton's decision any easier heading into Week 1. Nonetheless, regardless of who gets the job, they will have big shoes to fill after the legendary Drew Brees, who spent most of his 20-year career in The Big Easy, retired during the offseason. Fantasy managers in deeper, Superflex formats should look elsewhere to fill the void at the position, primarily with the Saints dealing with injuries across the roster.

Aug 9th · 10:13 PM
Jameis Winston Has Strong Day Monday

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston turned in a strong performance during Monday's practice. Working with the first-string offense, Winston connected on 6 of 8 passing attempts, firing touchdowns to Deonte Harris and Marquez Callaway. It's been a tight quarterback competition in New Orleans, partly due to the Saints' limited receiver depth, though Monday marked perhaps one of Winston's best days- and one of Hill's shakiest. Preseason action will go a long way towards deciding who emerges as the Week 1 starter- though the former Buccaneer would seem to have the greater passing upside, having thrown for 5,109 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions as recently as 2019, leading to a QB4 fantasy finish. If anointed the starter, Winston would make for a solid, late-round choice in 2QB formats.

Jul 30th · 02:10 PM
Taysom Hill, Jameis Winston Continue To Swap Reps

It appears we're in for a real quarterback competition in New Orleans, with Saints head coach Sean Payton saying that Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill will swap reps daily as the first-team QB. Winston's received the most praise so far in camp, but Hill's still a clear threat to Winston in the battle for the starting role. For fantasy purposes, both players have upside if they win the job, but both also come with one clear downside: the possibility that the Saints wind up using both guys under center during the regular season. NFL teams don't use committee approaches at the position, but we all know how much Payton loves to put Hill in the game.

Are NFL Trade Rumor Covered in the Player News?
Yes! As you can see from this Julio Jones write up from his player page, we updated his news section as soon as the news broke.
“The Atlanta Falcons are not expected to trade quarterback Matt Ryan this offseason, according to sources. “The Falcons have not had any trade conversations about Ryan or their star wide receiver Julio Jones. And every expectation is both players are going to be on the roster in 2021,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said. New head coach Arthur Smith plans to run a similar offense to the one Kyle Shanahan used when Ryan won MVP in 2016. Atlanta would be on the hook for more than $44 million in dead money in 2021 if they traded Ryan before June 1. Atlanta may decide to take Ryan’s heir-apparent at No. 4 overall in the draft, but the 35-year-old signal-caller is expected to stay put for at least another season. Ryan and Jones got it going to end the regular season and could be in line for bounce-back campaigns under Smith in 2021. Consider Ryan a midrange QB1 heading into next season.”
