Bills Re-Sign Special-Teamer Taiwan Jones

The Buffalo Bills re-signed running back Taiwan Jones to an undisclosed one-year deal. The 33-year-old will return as depth behind Devin Singletary and Zack Moss, but he also played a pivotal special teams role for the Bills last season. Jones appeared in 13 games, playing 47 percent of the teams snaps on special teams in 2020. Buffalo also re-signed top special teams ace Tyler Matakevich this offseason. On the offensive side of the ball, Jones played just four total offensive snaps last year, so fantasy managers can continue to ignore him in all leagues. In his 10-year NFL career with the Raiders, Bills and Texans, Jones has just 53 carries for 223 yards and no rushing touchdowns in 104 games (zero starts).

Bills Signing Taiwan Jones

The Buffalo Bills are signing running back Taiwan Jones to an undisclosed one-year deal on Wednesday, according to a source. Jones spent 2017 and 2018 with Buffalo before seeing only nine rushing attempts over 11 games in 2019 with the Texans. The Bills could use a little more running back depth with veteran Frank Gore expected to go elsewhere in free agency. The 31-year-old fourth-round pick of the Raiders in 2011 will be behind Devin Singletary and T.J. Yeldon with the Bills, though, so he'll have very little fantasy appeal, even in the deepest of leagues.

Taiwan Jones Starts Against Lions

Houston Texans running back Taiwan Jones started Saturday's preseason win over the Detroit Lions. He rushed once for five yards. While Jones wasn't very involved offensively, head coach Bill O'Brien's decision to go with him as the starter with Lamar Miller and Duke Johnson out suggests that Jones may be in the lead for the third running back role in Houston. His ability to make an impact on special teams -- something O'Brien wants from the third and fourth back -- will be what gets him a spot if he earns one. Don't expect Jones to see much usage if Miller and Johnson are healthy.

Taiwan Jones Starts First Preseason Game

Houston Texans running back Taiwan Jones started the team's first preseason game, rushing for 28 yards on seven carries and bringing in his only target for 11 yards. The battle to be the third running back in Houston is wide open, and Jones getting the first crack at the starting lineup isn't a huge surprise, as reports out of camp have been positive. Most likely, Jones is part of a three-way battle with undrafted rookies Damarea Crockett and Karan Higdon to grab the final two spots at the position. Jones' ability to contribute on special teams should give him a good shot at making the team, though it would take injuries for him to find fantasy relevance.

Taiwan Jones Having Strong Camp

Early on in training camp, it looked like the Houston Texans were set to roll with Josh Ferguson as their third-down back, but veteran running back Taiwan Jones has come on strong lately in the battle for that spot. Jones has been practicing with Houston's starters at times and the veteran has plenty of experience playing on special teams, which head coach Bill O'Brien says is necessary to earn a backup running back spot on this team. Keep an eye on the Ferguson/Jones in preseason, as the winner could have some situational value in deeper leagues.

Taiwan Jones Did Not Suffer Concussion

Buffalo Bills running back Taiwan Jones (head) did not suffer a concussion in Week 2 against the Chargers when he lost his helmet and then took a hit to the head. Head coach Sean McDermott said Jones was bruised and needed stitches to close a wound on his head. Jones is more of a special teams player and won't be fantasy relevant, even if LeSean McCoy (ribs) misses this weekend against the Vikings.

Bills Re-Sign Taiwan Jones

The Buffalo Bills re-signed running back Taiwan Jones to a one-year deal on Friday. Jones broke his arm in Week 9 against the Jets last year, but when healthy played a "gunner" role on special teams mainly. Unless Buffalo's running game suffers widespread injuries, Jones can be ignored for fantasy. He didn't have a single carry with the Bills in 2017 and had just one catch in eight games.

Taiwan Jones Done For The Season

Buffalo Bills running back and key special teamer Taiwan Jones (arm) is out for the season after suffering a broken arm Thursday night against the Jets, according to head coach Sean McDermott. Jones didn't have a single carry so far in 2017 and obviously wasn't on anyone's fantasy radar.

Are NFL Trade Rumor Covered in the Player News?
Yes! As you can see from this Julio Jones write up from his player page, we updated his news section as soon as the news broke.
“The Atlanta Falcons are not expected to trade quarterback Matt Ryan this offseason, according to sources. “The Falcons have not had any trade conversations about Ryan or their star wide receiver Julio Jones. And every expectation is both players are going to be on the roster in 2021,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said. New head coach Arthur Smith plans to run a similar offense to the one Kyle Shanahan used when Ryan won MVP in 2016. Atlanta would be on the hook for more than $44 million in dead money in 2021 if they traded Ryan before June 1. Atlanta may decide to take Ryan’s heir-apparent at No. 4 overall in the draft, but the 35-year-old signal-caller is expected to stay put for at least another season. Ryan and Jones got it going to end the regular season and could be in line for bounce-back campaigns under Smith in 2021. Consider Ryan a midrange QB1 heading into next season.”
