Every professional sports league has their own set of rules and regulations, aka COVID protocols. The protocols are in place to ensure the season can carry on without incident. Some players aren’t very happy with all the rules. Ovechkin and some of his teammates got in trouble after hanging out together in a hotel room during the Capitals’ most recent road trip. They’ve been disciplined as a result.
Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin and three teammates were placed on the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol-related absences list on Wednesday, as the league fined the team $100,000 for a violation of health and safety protocols.
Ovechkin, center Evgeny Kuznetsov, defenseman Dmitry Orlov and goaltender Ilya Samsonov were all added to the daily list of players who are “unavailable to play or practice, in accordance with the league’s COVID protocols.”
The NHL fined the Capitals for “social interactions among team members who were in close contact and who were not wearing face coverings.”
The players were in violation of NHL safety protocols for grouping together in a hotel room.
Ovechkin’s wife was not very happy about the NHL’s decision, and took to Instagram to put them on blast:
Of course, only Russian players of Washington Capitals were together in the same hotel room. Of course, all of the other NHL players, when playing away, separating themselves from their teammates. Of course, you can’t catch the virus when you and your teammates sit together on the bench, hug each other when they score a goal, or when they are all together in the lounge or locker room. Players can’t get infected when they are at the restaurants, supermarkets, malls, etc.. Virus only works in a hotel room. The one who came up with this rule, obviously is very logical. By the way, both Alex Ovechkin and Dmitry Orlov have antibodies. Unfortunately, not everyone is competent in their (antibodies) value and properties.
Alex Ovechkin's wife Nastya has posted a response to the Capitals' four Russians being put on COVID protocol for hanging out in a hotel room together during the team's recent road trip.

However Ovechkin himself wasn’t all that upset:
Alex Ovechkin statement on #caps breaking the NHL's COVID protocols: "I regret my choice to spend time together with my teammates in our hotel room and away from the locker room areas. I will learn from this experience."

He should regret it, it appears one of the guys from the hotel hang has tested positive.
News: Capitals goalie Ilya Samsonov has tested positive for coronavirus, two people with knowledge of the situation said Thursday. The team received news of Samsonov’s positive test Tuesday night. https://t.co/qvbOavlgYD

People just need to learn how to follow rules.
It’s that simple. Check out more of Ovechkin’s angrier half below:
