Anthony Edwards Downplays “Grown-Ass Man Conversation” Between Karl-Anthony Towns and Jimmy Butler

Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Anthony Edwards had a front-row seat for a testy verbal exchange between Karl-Anthony Towns and Jimmy Butler on Friday. The whole spat probably shouldn’t be a huge surprise given the relationship between Butler and Towns.

If you recall, those two didn’t exactly get along during Butler’s short stint in Minneapolis. Even as they are now playing for teams at opposite ends of the country (and NBA standings), there’s still no love lost between the two.

The mics picked up a bit of the Towns/Butler jaw-jacking that took place in the final minute of Friday’s win.

The officials assessed double technicals and things proceeded as normal over the final 30 seconds of action.

Of course, reporters would be remiss if they didn’t ask Karl-Anthony Towns about the exchange during the postgame press conference. On the heels of his fourth consecutive game scoring 25+ points, rookie Anthony Edwards decided to handle the inquiry for him.

Hard to argue with Edwards on that exchange being a “grown-ass man conversation”, that’s for sure.

It’s no secret that Jimmy Butler got the better end of the deal when he boldly forced his way out of Minnesota. He led the Heat to the NBA Finals last season and has them headed back to the postseason in 2021.

That said, Karl-Anthony Towns now finds himself with another player who sure looks like a star in the making. Anthony Edwards, the top overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, is averaging 19.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals on the season.

It certainly appeared as though KAT appreciated the support from his rookie teammate during last night’s presser. He returned the favor by offering up another endorsement for his Minnesota teammate to win the NBA Rookie of the Year Award after his latest impressive performance.

It’s hard to say Edwards is the current ROTY favorite, given the fact that LaMelo Ball has successfully returned from a broken wrist. That said, the two aren’t that far off in terms of numbers this season.

KAT will have to watch Jimmy Butler in the playoffs from home again this year. But at least he has a new, more loyal teammate in Anthony Edwards.
