Billy Joe Saunders Gives Update After Canelo Alvarez Badly Injured His Eye

Billy Joe Saunders was putting up a decent fight as the heavy underdog against Canelo Alvarez…until it all went south.

Alvarez caught Saunders with an uppercut that closed his eye shut. After the doctor stopped with fight (giving Canelo the TKO win), it was revealed that Saunders had suffered a quadripod fracture. Basically, Canelo smashed Saunders’ orbital bone so badly, that his cheekbone caved in. It was immediately in question whether Saunders would ever be able to fight again.

On Monday, Billy Joe Saunders took to social media to give fans an update on his condition. He also vowed that he would box again.

“Thanks everyone for [the messages],” Saunders posted on social media Monday via TMZ … “Broken eye socket and broken cheek bone in 3 places.”

“You win some and lose some didn’t feel out my league but got caught with a good shot.”

Billy Joe Saunders was undefeated at 30-0 before the Canelo Alvarez. While some reports indicated a return from this particular injury might be an uphill battle, Saunders said that we’ll be seeing him in the ring again.

“I’ll be back,” Saunders said.
