Chargers coach Brandon Staley is quickly making his way into the conversation of best young coaches in the NFL. And he’s trending this week for another good reason.
The John Gruden emails brought out a lot of the bad of the culture in and around professional sports in this country. But Staley has given us reason for hope.
When speaking about the John Gruden email leak, Brandon Staley gave an extremely reflective answer.
âI think what youâll discover is that we have so much more in common than notâ pic.twitter.com/nKfKazUQ4v

Here’s the full quote from Brandon Staley:
“Perspective and trust in this world are really, really difficult to achieve. I think about all the people that were affected by those emails â whether youâre a person of color, whether youâre a person, you know, a gender, your sexual orientation. Thatâs who Iâm thinking about because itâs a sacred mantle for someone to call you coach or someone to call you a leader.
âTrust is really, really hard to achieve in this world. Itâs really, really challenging to achieve, especially with people with those groups that I just mentioned. People are really guarded and skeptical of people because of emails like that.
âKindness and lifting people up and respecting people you donât know, I just think that thatâs such a big part of our thing here ⊠listening to people and learning about people because I think what youâll discover is that we have so much more in common than not.
âFor someone like me, itâs just incumbent upon you to set the example every single day so that people that were talked about in those emails that they donât need to feel that way, they shouldnât feel that way.
âHopefully, all of us can learn from this, that itâs about bringing people together for me, so that people can become the people that they dream about. For me, leading this football team and being someone, hopefully, we can be a light for those people in those emails that not everybodyâs like that, that thereâs far more people that will love you than the opposite.
âHopefully, this will be a chance for everybody to come together instead of go apart.â
Not only is Brandon Staley shaping up to be a slam-dunk hire for a Chargers who have found themselves in first place in the AFC West. But he also appears to be a consummate leader for the players to look up to.
In this day-in-age, it’s getting almost exhausting to see all the negative content floating around the web. So it was a nice breathe of fresh air to see something trending for a positive reason.
The Chargers sure appear to have a good one in Brandon Staley.
